What a thrill to be a part of the IIFA Awards weekend in Tampa, Florida! The Desh-Videsh team was honored to be a media partner of the IIFA Expo, and we were even more excited to be a part of this global show here in our own home state. No doubt many of you joined the thousands who came to Tampa to join in the festivities. As we reminisce about the good times, let’s recap the awards show.

Deepika Padukone, who was her own competition at the IIFA Awards, won Best Actress for Chennai Legendary Athlete Milkha SinghExpress. She was also nominated for the films Goliyon Ki Rasleela- Ramleela and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaani in the same category. The beautiful actress also won Entertainer of the Year.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the life of Indian athlete Milkha Singh, and the film dominated the entire evening. Milkha Singh and his wife were special guests at this IIFA awards in Tampa. The story talks about his perseverance as an athlete and also as a courageous human spirit. The name of the movie comes from the last words spoken by his father, which was to save his life during the riots of Partition of India. The movie won Best Film, Best Director for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Best Actor for Farhan Akhtar, and Best Supporting Actress for Divya Dutt.

Aditya Roy Kapur won Best Supporting Actor for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Dhanush scored Best Debutant for Raanjhanaa, and Arshad Warsi Best Comic Performance for Jolly LLB. Rishi Kapoor won Best Negative Performance for D Day.

Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghishal won the playback awards for Aashiqui 2. The film also earned the Best Lyrics award.
