Kunj and Hiren went to college in Florida and were introduced by a mutual friend at a birthday party in Ft. Lauderdale. They began dating only a couple of months after that first  meeting. Hiren’s sense of humor was in Kunj’s words “impossible to resist.” They dated for over two years before leaving Miami for Orlando and better career prospects.

It was in a park in Brickell, Miami, where they went to visit Kunj’s parents, that Hiren pulled off a picture-perfect proposal. Literally. Kunj found a photo album on one of the park’s benches, and as she looked through the pictures that captured their memories and love she found Hiren’s message on the last page – “Will you marry me?” Kunj closed the album to find Hiren on his knee as he repeated his question. Kunj’s answer was a heartfelt yes.

Kunj’s pre-wedding events included a Grah Shanti, Mehndi and Pithi at home. For the Mehndi and Pithi, artistic aunties of South Florida worked together to decorate the entire house with a beautiful ring of light pink, purple fuchsia and vibrant colors, and a see-through dance stage over the pool. The garba was held at the Marriott Harbor Beach and included live music and singing. Decor was done in vibrant gold draping with light pink, fusia, purple, peach, orange, yellow, white with greenery to create a very lively atmosphere in the garba Hall. Kunj and Hiren entered the garba hall in an old fashion rickshaw. 

Hiren began his greatest adventure in life with Kunj while sitting atop a magnificent horse. The Baarat arrived with exuberant guests ready to shower their blessings on the duo. The beautiful bride Kunj lit up the rustic themed mandap with her glowing presence. 

Kunj and Hiren’s traditional wedding was both understated and classy with four hundred guests not counting their beloved dog Toby, who was part of the groom’s entourage. Kunj, the co-founder of a nonprofit organization, “Hands of Esperanza,” which provides medical aid in Guatemala, set up a photobooth at the wedding to raise funds. The funds along with a large portion of the wedding gifts were donated to build a multispecialty medical and surgical clinic in Guatemala.

Kunj and Hiren danced to Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do for Love” made even more memorable as the groom played the saxophone. Kunj was joyfully surprised when Hiren danced with her friends. When it comes to Kunj, there seems to be nothing that Hiren won’t do for love.

For over 10 years, MyShadi Bridal Expo has been a community event not to be missed by those planning a South Asian wedding. What began as a small bridal show twice a year in Florida, has now grown into a platform for over 85 event vendors taking place in over six different cities across the Southeast US.

Hosted by Desh Videsh Media Group, the MyShadi Bridal Expo offers vendors a chance to showcase their products and services as well as the latest trends in South Asian weddings. Instead of driving around town meeting vendors weekend after weekend, brides, grooms, and their families can spend one afternoon checking items off their wedding to-do lists.

Raj and Aruna Shah, founders of Desh Videsh Media Group, dreamed up the idea of a South Asian specific bridal show soon after their youngest son’s wedding. At their most recent show at the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Hotel on Sunday, August 25, 2019, the Shahs were humbled by the large crowds. “It’s so great to see so many young couples making plans for their futures. We love meeting couples as much as we do working with vendors,” said Mrs. Shah.

The MyShadi Bridal Expo has evolved over the years, and now hosts event planning vendors such as photographers, decorators, DJs, caterers, venues, clothing/jewelry boutiques, hair/makeup/henna artists, and more in one exhibition hall in one afternoon. Bold, inviting colors and a festive atmosphere provide a backdrop for the display of the many elements in a South Asian wedding. Beautifully designed mandaps with gorgeous floral arrangements and intricate reception table settings are just some of the wedding components attendees get to see in person. Many couples now blend tradition with modern elements, and the MyShadi Bridal Expo is the place to be inspired and create a unique wedding vision.

When it comes to bridal and formal wear fashion, the exclusive designer fashion shows provide a stunning look at the latest styles. Whether a wedding guest or the bride, the designer clothing and jewelry boutiques attending the show allow attendees to purchase items on site.

Over the years, the MyShadi Bridal Expo has become a place not only for wedding planning, but for all event planning needs. Attendees planning baby showers and anniversary and graduation parties are able to find photographers, venues, caterers and more at the show making the process that much easier. Dazzling mandaps, gorgeous bridal wear, and the buzz of excited couples were a part of each of the MyShadi Bridal Expos this year. Couples along with their families and bridal parties attended the bridal show in the hopes of marking items off their wedding-to-do checklist. With a wide variety of vendors, from banquet halls and photographers to decorators and makeup artists, couples were able to meet with many different vendors all in one afternoon.

Fashion shows by the region’s exclusive boutiques offered attendees a look at the latest trends in bridalwear. Well-known DJs created the perfect ambiance in the hall with a listen to a mix of popular Bollywood and Top 40 hits. A festive and celebratory feeling in the air created the perfect background for the MyShadi Bridal Expo, putting all attendees in the mood for wedding and party planning!

This year, a Destination Wedding Pavilion, co-hosted by Proficient Travel, was a part of each show and attendees loved the new addition. Offering couples and families a look at options for planning a destination wedding, the Pavilion brought together venues in Mexico and the Caribbean as well as travel experts.

Know Your Skin Type
The first step to healthy skin – understanding your skin type. Knowing your skin type can help you care for it properly and choose the correct skin care products. For instance, while rich hydrating creams or lotions work well for dry skin, these products can cause acne for those with oily skin.

Stay Hydrated

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
Follow a balanced diet that includes fresh fruits, nuts and beans. Pick natural foods over processed or artificial items, which lack needed nutrients for healthy skin. Be sure to get enough rest as the lack of sleep actually ages your skin. A few missed nights of sleep can lead to sallow skin and puffy eyes. Chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin, fine lines and dark circles under the eyes. Finally, don’t forget to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. A well-balanced routine leads to better overall health for your body … and your skin!

Ten years after experiencing the bliss of togetherness, Avinash decided it was time to take the relationship to the next level. On the pretext of having Anuradha home for dinner, Avinash arranged for an elaborate candlelight dinner, complete with rose petals carpeting the floor, floating candles and soft music playing gently in the background. The most special snapshot was of Avinash waiting in readiness with a ring in his hand.

With ten months before the final wedding day, there was plenty to accomplish. The task was made even more difficult since the wedding was followed directly by the reception on the same day. Suhaag Gardens stepped in and took responsibility for all décor and overall arrangements, which eased a significant amount of stress.

The wedding was held in Florida, with another reception planned in Trinidad. The Marriott Coral Springs was an ideal venue since the hotel could not only accommodate all guests, but also provided scenic beauty. Although there were smaller pujas and obligatory rituals performed in the days before the wedding, the main celebrations stretched over three days, beginning with a haldi ceremony and followed by a sangeet the following day.

A large Radha Krishna statue welcomed guests to the wedding venue. Upon entering, it was apparent that white was the color of the day, complemented with the use of gold, crystal and colorful flowers. The mandap drew much attention with the use of bright blue and purple drapes. While Avinash had an impressive entourage of cars, the bride came in under an exquisite canopy, while a live band created the right mood with its music.

At the reception, tables and chairs were decorated to feed into the predominant peacock theme. With purple and blue on the tables and matching flower arrangements, the sight was spectacular. Water fountains and rotating peacock statues made the arrangements unique and equally ornate. Even the lights were purple, green and blue. Highlights of the evening include introduction of the bride and groom, speeches, and the fine food.

For those who missed out on the extravaganza in Florida, there was plenty to look forward to back home as the couple celebrated again with a reception in Trinidad. The Lakshmi Narayan Temple came alive with water fountains, tea gardens and fresh décor. This time around, there were even two live peacocks!

There is no shortage of wedding advice, but the couple offers a fresh perspective. They feel that once you have true friendship, love, honesty and respect for one another, all arrangements leading up to the wedding will become much easier and also more enjoyable. It also works when you keep each other well informed and communicate, which will ensure that everyone is heard. The couple stresses that no matter how stressful the event, and despite what may go wrong, you will certainly be left wanting to enjoy the celebrations all over again, so it is best that you take in every moment!

It all began in the summer of 2006 when Reshma and Jeremy were classmates in the Managerial Accounting class at the University of Florida. Following their brief acquaintance in college, circumstances brought Reshma and Jeremy together at the Hindu Student Council. Soon, Reshma found out that Jeremy lived in a building that she frequented to meet her friend Kevin. She began seeing Jeremy whenever she came to meet Kevin. Hearts began to grow fonder, and eventually, Jeremy took Reshma out for lunch to Pizza by the Slice. By November of the same year, Reshma and Jeremy went on their first “official” date to Leonardo’s and shared the sinful chocolate cake. After that, the bond of love was sealed forever. Reshma and Jeremy dated for four years before exchanging vows.

The wedding proposal itself was beautiful. Most of their friends agree that Jeremy has not one, but a body full of romantic bones. On March 25, 2010, Reshma found her bedroom door closed when she came home from work. When she opened the door, she was greeted by a lovely setting. room smelled of gardenia, her favorite scent. Her room was swathed in white sheets, and on the left, were rose petals that spelled “will you marry me.” A stunned Reshma was yet to absorb the transformation of her room when she saw Jeremy, kneeling down with a ring in hand. He told her that she was the most special person in his life, and he could think of no one but her to spend his life with. He asked Reshma to marry him and of course, the lucky girl said “yes.”

Once the would-be bride said “yes” to her soul mate, arrangements for the wedding were put in motion. Luckily for the couple, their respective mothers turned out to be great wedding planners. Reshma’s mother Vina and Jeremy’s mother Nayna threw themselves into their children’s wedding arrangements immediately. The couple waited a year and eight months after their engagement for the wedding to happen. The Sheraton Hotel in Hollywood was the venue of choice partly for the convenience for both sides and partly because of its grandeur.

The arrival of the groom is always a much awaited event at any wedding. On his wedding day, Jeremy lived up to the hype by arriving in a gleaming black Rolls Royce Phantom, accompanied by his sister, Devanshi. To seal this beautiful bond between Reshma and Jeremy, an equally enchanting mandap was set up in the Sheraton’s ballroom. At 9 o’clock in the morning, when the wedding ceremony began, the ballroom looked like a dream with soft lighting and many candles. The mandap was displayed traditionally with handing candles and stood two feet above the ground. Red flowers adorned the white aisle and completed the dream-like ambiance.

The wedding reception was no less grand. Dazzling teal accent lights adorned the room, teal satin tablecloths and chair bows created the setting, and the ceiling was draped in white drapes. One center piece was modeled like a ball with clear tall flutes and white flowers. The second center piece was made up of white flowers set on a short base. The bride and groom looked stunning in matching purple outfits. A stage was set up for them in the middle of the hall. As the couple walked in, twin petal blasters showered them with pink petals.

Music at the reception was an eclectic mix of Indian and western being turned out by a DJ. Original songs were played that won approval from everybody. The reception began with a short introduction, and then the couple cut their reception cake before going to the dance floor where they swayed to “A Whole New World” from Aladdin.

The bride then danced with her father to the tune “Baba ki Rani.” Friends from college took over, and it was time for some fun games. The bride won the task of rolling out roti dough that was judged by both the mums. The groom seemed to be more price savvy as he won the next task of having to guess the price of articles. The groom also seemed to be more fashion savvy as he won the game where the he had to dress a boy in a girl’s dress, and the bride had to dress a girl in boy’s attire. However, the bride was wittier as she won the game where they had to come with the best responses to different questions. After the games, the bride’s sister performed a dance, the groom’s sister lifted a toast and finally, the groom became enthusiastic and gave a charming thank you speech.

As for people whose weddings are coming up, Reshma and Jeremy suggest that they do not get too stressed while planning. Instead, prioritize your plans and execute them accordingly. Couples should enjoy the whole journey.

Though the wedding was finally over, a lifetime of celebrations for the couple had just begun.

The event was widely attended by over 1,000 attendees – brides and grooms-to-be as well as their families. Attendees had the opportunity to meet personally with photographers, hotel and banquet hall representatives, event planners, and decorators. Who could resist the scrumptious samples of wedding cake and tasty bites of food fare?! There were also professional mehndi and make-up artists providing live demonstrations of their art. There was even a competition amongst the mehndi artists – each of them entering one of their intricate works of creative magic – the winner was Amber Emkin of HennaParty.com. Other entrants included Arman Henna Art, AnjuThaker, Farah Mehndi, and Henna Art.

“Just when I was feeling overwhelmed by the thought of the wedding planning and the many details that need to be arranged, I heard about this show. Now that I’ve had a chance to meet with some vendors, I’m feeling pretty good about where we stand! All it took was an afternoon of schmoozing. And who could say no to the delicious cake samples!” exclaimed bride-to-be, Mira Nair.

Neil Persad of Florida Melody Makers got the crowd moving with amazing music. Rakesh and Madhu of Anand Events provided the elegant stage decorations and created the perfect ambiance for the Expo.

Brides-to-be and fashion-savvy attendees were enthralled by the beautiful models that looked elegant and fashionable in the latest formal wear designs. The first fashion show featured designs by Rupees Sarees, a company that specializes in traditional and exclusive saree styles from all over India. The second fashion show was choreographed by Ateeqa Boutique, which featured exquisite and custom Pakistani designs.

At various intervals throughout the afternoon, brides lined up for their chance to win one of several toss-out prizes, including a number of weekend bridal/spa packages at some of the hotel vendors at the show. But the high point was two couples winning complimentary tickets to India generously provided by Qatar Airlines and Just India (www.justindia.us), a destination marketing company.

Shailee and Vivek Patel, both fourth year students of medicine at the University of Miami, knew one another’s siblings for a while, but did not meet until a fateful cultural convention held in 2003. They were in touch through messages and emails and completed their undergraduate degree together at the University of Miami, after which they both went to the Miller School of Medicine.

In 2010,Vivek decided to propose. Mindful that both held their respective families in the highest regard, Vivek decided to include them and invited them to a beach spot at Key Biscayne. Etching out a wedding proposal in the sand with Shailee’s favorite color teal, Vivek got down on one knee with the entire family hidden behind keeping the scene in full view. Shailee had no reason to refuse.

Diligent planning and ample support ensured all details were taken care of well in advance. A wedding planner was the ideal resource for this couple to ensure arrangements went on smoothly and remained on course. With help to find and secure vendors, arrange food tastings, and plan the events, wedding planning became easy to manage. While friends managed all logistics and parents were busy with details, Shailee and Vivek had time to focus on their studies. A quick trip to India to shop for clothes and other items was also possible given the one and a half years between the engagement and wedding.

Although everyone felt plenty of time was available, the wedding arrived sooner than they expected. The first event was raas garba, which set to a mela or carnival A spectacular opening to the upcoming celebrations, everyone participated in full dress and with ample enthusiasm. Palmists, puppet shows, poster collage, and bangle bazaar were accompanied by music from the famous Rawal Brothers who performed live. Close friends of the couple performed a choreographed number with a surprise entry made by the groom. Entertainment not with standing, the guests had a roaring time with village foods served with a rustic feel. To blend in a little American essence, there was also cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn. The Orlando Marriott Lake Mary found itself transported to an Indian village as 500 guests enjoyed the festivities. The Marriott was ideal for its proximity to Shailee’s home and for lodging arrangements for most of the wedding guests.

For the wedding, an elegant gold mandap was embellished using pastel colored roses, hydrangeas and Asiatic lilies. Draped with ivory and coral curtains, it made for an impressive arena with 6 pillars designed in the shape of a seashell. The aisle had circular mosaic tile holders for the bouquets, candles and dangling flowers.

The wedding reception was held at the Heron Bay Marriott in Parkland, which is where Vivek and his family reside. The theme for the reception was Miami Chic, and the golf course located on the premises made for a pictures que backdrop Weaving Miami nightlife with the use of decor, colors and lighting, Suhaag Gardens handled all the decorations and in corporately host of elements to complete the feel. Most importantly, they ensured an inclusive dessert bar to appease the dessert cravings Shailee and Vivek are known to have.

DJ Firoz Dudha kept the 450 attendees completely entertained, not just with his music, but also as Emcee. A photo frame on the stage saw a silhouette dance performed by Shailee and Vivek, after which the sheers dropped and the man and his new wife emerged. They then performed their first dance together to Starlight by Muse.
