Berries

High in antioxidants and a myriad of vitamins, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are a great addition to any meal. Wash fruit in the morning and keep it on hand during the day. You will be surprised by hoBerriesw many little hands start picking at the fruit! Add berries to oatmeal, smoothies, and baked goods. Try to buy organic when possible as most berries are high of the list of heavily pesticide-laden foods.

Quinoa
This grain is high in protein and fiber and makes an excellent substitute for white rice. Use in place of couscous in
salads or even try it instead of your morning oatmeal.

Spices
Don’t shy away from using spices. Healthy does not mean bland! Garlic and spices such as tumeric, red chili powder, and cinnamon all have homeopathic properties that can aid your effort in healthy living.

Green Smoothie

  • 5-6 kale leaves (ribs removed), chopped
  • ½ cup chopped pineapple
  • ½ cup chopped mango
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.

Morning Pick-Me-Up Smoothie

  • 2/3 cup water or any juice
  • 1 cup plain nonfat greek yogurt
  • Agave nectar to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Handful of almonds
  • ½ cup pineapple, chopped
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup strawberries
  • ½ cup raspberries

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
