Disha Patani reveals how Mohit Suri’s Malang was physically challenging for her
Disha Patani is one of the hard-working Bollywood actresses that we have right now. She is also the girl with a Midas touch, as every movie that she has been a part of including MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Baaghi 2, and Bharat – has been a blockbuster hit at the box office.
After Bharat, Disha is looking forward to sharing screen space once again with Salman Khan in Radhe, which will be releasing on Eid 2020. She is also a part of Malang which is a romantic thriller directed by Mohit Suri. While talking about the movie Disha maintains that it was a physically challenging experience for her.
“We did a lot of underwater sports for this film. The activities were very different and challenging, more so because we had to learn everything in just a day or two, and normally people take years of experience to learn underwater sports. However, it was overall a lot of fun for me performing all those stunts because I really like sports. As long as it looks great on screen, every effort is worth it”.
Well, we just can’t wait to see Disha in this movie, what about you?
“I am attracted to bio-pics and especially to those about sportspersons” says Taapsee Pannu on her Mithali Raj bio-pic
After Soorma, Mission Mangal and Sandh Ki Aankh Taaapsee Pannu has become quite the bio-pic favourite. Now Taapsee is all set to play Mithali Raj the captain of the Indian woman’s cricket team and she says she will learn cricket from scratch for the role.
Says Taapsee, “I am attracted to bio-pics and especially to those about sportspersons. I am interested in sports in general. Of course, I will learn cricket to play Mithali Raj. Is there any other way to do the biopic of the captain of the cricket team? Not to mention, one of the best cricketer we have.”
Taapsee met Mithali Raj recently on the latter’s birthday and she was most impressed by the cricket star’s humility. “Mithali Raj talks very less, reads a lot and is of a quiet demeanour, totally opposite to me. So that made it clear I have a lot to work upon when I step into her shoes”
Taapsee also has another sports biopic that of a Gujarati sprinter in Akarsh Khurana’s Rocket Rashmi.
She says, “That’s more of a human story not a sports biopic. As far as doing bio-pics is concerned, I don’t mind that at all.The more the merrier. We have so many real- life heroes, so why not celebrate them on screen? At least the country should know the treasure they have.”
Which does she find easier to do, fictional or real-life characters? “Biopics are more stressful than fictional stories.”
Signing off I congratulate Taapsee on her astounding headway .
She replies, “If I sit and look back I think I will be equally astounded. Or probably more because I have lived this journey. Might make me feel like I have chip on my shoulder so good I don’t have time to look back and relish that thought as of now.”
The first look of Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar justifies the title of the film!
Just yesterday, Ranveer Singh’s upcoming project with Yash Raj Films, Jayeshbhai Jordaar went on floors. The film was announced a few months ago while Ranveer Singh was still shooting for his film with Kabir Khan, ’83. The actor will be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev in the film with the plot revolving around a detailed insight of the 1983 World Cup that the independent Indian cricket team got home.
With the announcement of Jayeshbhai Jordaar going on floors, the makers have now released the first look of the film and Ranveer Singh is all set to rock his Gujarati accent. Looking bewildered in the first look, Ranveer Singh is seen sporting a moustache with side-partitioned short hair. Looking like a proper Gujarati man in his polo t-shirt and high waist denims, the first look has only increased anticipation for this Divyang Thakkar’s directorial.
Speaking about his character, Ranveer said, “As Charlie Chaplin once said, ‘To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!’. Jayeshbhai is an unlikely hero – an ordinary man, who ends up doing something extraordinary when he’s hurled into a threatening situation. Jayeshbhai is sensitive and compassionate. He believes in equal rights between men and women in a society that is deeply rooted in patriarchal ideals, practices, and doctrines.”
He further spoke about the uniqueness of the character and praised his director saying, “Jayeshbhai presented an exciting challenge – to deconstruct myself in order to transform into a kind of character I’ve never inhabited before. Divyang has poured his soul into this brilliant piece of writing that will nudge you to introspect whilst making you smile and laugh the entire time”.
The producer of the film, Maneesh Sharma said, “Ranveer is fearless when it comes to inhabiting a role and has continued his risk-taking behaviour, eschewing his looks for his character’s needs. For Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Divyang had the vision of a protagonist that went against the cloth – a hero that isn’t necessarily hyper-masculine or Alpha. This faith in the director’s vision and the self-confidence of going against your “image” is what makes Ranveer a filmmaker’s delight and one of India’s biggest stars – not just commercially but critically as well.”
Calling it a miracle script, Ranveer Singh is ecstatic to be a part of this project. Apart from ’83 and Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Ranveer will also be seen in Karan Johar’s period magnum opus, Takht.
“I have been rejecting so much work”- Radhika Apte reveals refusing adult comedies after stripping scene in Badlapur
Known to be not only a great performer but also a woman who has always maintained her stand, Radhika Apte recently opened up on being approached for work aplenty, many of which happen to be adult comedies. The actor was in conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt at the recently held We The Women event, she opened up on how stripping in one of her films resulted in a bunch of sex comedies coming her way.
During the conversation, Barkha asked Radhika what kind of films she usually rejected. “Comedy franchise films and sex comedies. I was offered a sex comedy after I did Badlapur….Because I stripped and I had done a short film, Ahalya, they said ‘you are constantly playing the role of a seductress.’ I said, ‘can you tell me where’? They said Ahalya and Badlapur. I have been rejecting so much work. I don’t know if it is good for me or not,” the actor answered.
She now also realises when to apply what strategy, when dealing with different people and situations. “I have learnt in my life that saying no and standing up for myself constantly has gotten me nowhere. I have learnt to have different rules – say no to certain things, suck it up a little bit and then reach a place and say no and make a bigger impact. I am trying to do that. When I was a nobody and I came here, I couldn’t do anything. Today, I am working for a very big production company, and I put my foot down, saying till you pay me as much as the (other) actors are getting paid I am not doing it. And I got that money”, she added.
That ‘very big production company’, we assume, refers to Netflix India!

Bhumi Pednekar speaks about playing modern day wife in Pati Patni Aur Woh
Bhumi Pednekar is definitely making her mark brilliantly through her choice of cinema. She has a distinct voice in Bollywood and always picks characters that tend to leave a thought behind. She plays the wife, Vedika, in the upcoming romantic comedy Pati, Patni Aur Woh and her character is a sharp contrast to the wives that we have seen in Hindi cinema over the ages.
Bhumi explains saying, “Vedika is not represented as your traditional, docile wife stereotype who is always seen prioritising her husband and his needs over hers in our cinema. She loves her husband to bits but she loves herself too and strives to achieve the balance that any modern girl seeks in her relationship/marriage. I adore that about her.“
The versatile actor adds, “Vedika in Pati, Patni Aur Woh will shatter all such age-old presentation of the wife in cinema and present a bold, young girl who is feisty, lives life on her own terms and isn’t afraid to confront her husband if needed and at the same time be his emotional anchor. I agreed to say yes to this project because it represents the modern Indian girl who doesn’t forget her self-respect and individuality post marriage.”
Bhumi created a flutter on the internet as with her trailer as she boldly told the hero, Kartik Aryan, that she enjoys ‘sex’ – again a distinct departure from how heroines have been presented to be coy on screen and the hero is presented as the alpha male archetype.
She says, “If you see Vedika’s introduction in the trailer, even though she is clearly in an arranged marriage scenario, she doesn’t hesitate to express that she is a passionate human being. These are all very empowering qualities for any character. Vedika speaks her mind, she doesn’t hesitate to express and doesn’t care about the judgements that will be passed on her.”
For Bhumi, Vedika will always be a character incredibly close to her heart. “She loves being who is she and won’t ever compromise to become someone else. That’s what bowled me over about Vedika. She is real and extremely relatable to today’s young women and I think that’s the reason why people are connecting with Vedika in such a manner,” Bhumi says.
What’s Your Pick: Deepika Padukone in Anamika Khanna or Katrina Kaif in Anita Dongre?
Both Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif have been keeping their fashion game at the top for quite a few years now. Looking like the perfect Indian women, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif’s latest looks consist of sarees and we’re just not going to get over these anytime sooner. No wonder these two leading ladies can pull off any given look with utmost ease, poise, and perfection.
Deepika Padukone was seen in an off-white detailed saree by Anamika Khanna. With intricate thread work and embroidery in a hue contrast of brown, Deepika Padukone looks absolutely ethereal and breath-taking. She kept her makeup minimal and her hair tied in a bun as she rounded off her look with a choker necklace and studded earrings. Deepika’s look was styled by Shaleena Nathani.
Katrina Kaif was seen wearing a red coloured saree by Anita Dongre. The mono-coloured saree had delicate floral prints paired with a red sleeveless blouse. As usual, Katrina opted for a nude face and straight hair along with a bindi that definitely stood out in her rather simple look. Katrina’s look was styled by Tanya Ghavri and Karishma Shaikh.
Now that you’ve seen both the looks, pick the one you think looks best! On the work front, Deepika Padukone will next be seen in Chhapaak and ’83. As for Katrina Kaif, she will next be seen in Sooryavanshi.

“I have always looked to celebrate the strength of women”- Rani Mukerji on playing powerful female protagonists
Rani Mukerji’s stellar body of work makes her one of the best actors ever produced by India. But what’s even more stand out is the number of powerful female protagonists that she has given to Indian cinema through her incredible acting performances. From Sashi in Yuva, Saamiya in Veer-Zaara, Aparna in Hey Ram, Michelle McNally in Black, Naina Mathur in Hichki, Meera Gaity in No One Killed Jessica, Shivani Shivaji Roy, to name a few, Rani has immortalised some of the more charismatic and phenomenal female protagonists in the history of Bollywood.
Rani sheds light on her choice of such brilliant characters. She says, “I have always looked to celebrate the strength of women through my films whenever I have got the opportunity. No One Killed Jessica, Black, Mardaani, Hichki, etc are some of the favourite films of my career because they resonated with who I’m as a person in real life and my belief in how a woman should always be perceived. For me, a woman is a pillar of strength for her family, community, husband, child and I do feel we don’t celebrate women enough.”
Rani is reprising the role of the fearless and committed Superintendent of Police, Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2. She had delivered a knock-out performance in the super hit and hugely acclaimed prequel, Mardaani, in which she took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket. In Mardaani 2, Rani has been pitted against a very young yet dangerous villain who can be called pure evil.
The actor opens up on why her character in Mardaani has become so popular among masses. She says, “Mardaani 2 is another attempt of mine showcasing what a fearless, self-made, self-believing woman can do despite being pitted against all odds. Shivani Shivaji Roy is someone who will never back down in the face of injustice and I’m glad people have showered so much love and appreciation on her. She is one of my most favourite characters because she lives life her way and isn’t cowed down by judgments and stereotyping. She is the boss in a man’s world and she ensures her work speaks the loudest. She is the quintessential spirit of a woman and maybe that’s why she resonates with so many people.”
The versatile actress is thrilled with the current new generation of actors who are choosing to pick up scripts with script female protagonists.
Rani says, “I can see the tides changing and I can’t tell you how thrilled I’m as a woman and as an artiste. I have silently tried to do my best to bring out powerful women on screen and impact the psyche of people through their life. I get so happy when I see the young actors choosing to do gritty, women-centric films that give out the correct messaging about women to society.”
Produced by Aditya Chopra, Mardaani 2 will be Rani’s next release after the global blockbuster Hichki that delivered 250 crores worldwide. Mardaani 2 is set to hit theatres on 13th December.

Since this is the first time that Bhumi will be seen in this avatar, she will certainly surprise the audience in this role.
Bhumi plays Kartik Aaryan’s wife Vedika Tyagi in the film. Bhumi says, “Playing Vedika has been such an exciting adventure! I’m a Bombay girl and finally I’ve got to play a character who is somewhat aligned to who I am. I’ve not seen the cult classic, but this is a modern take on the film, which I think is very exciting. It’s such a fun film with so much love and empowerment attached to it! One of my best experiences without a doubt!”
