Mahesh Bhatt Calls Alia Bhatt Self-Made Star

Alia BhattVeteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt recently spoke candidly about the ongoing nepotism debate in Bollywood and reflected on his daughter Alia Bhatt’s rise to stardom. In a conversation on The Himanshu Mehta Show, Bhatt emphasized that Alia carved her own path, describing her as “self-made.”

He clarified that he had no part in launching her film career, noting that it was director Karan Johar who introduced her to the big screen with Student of the Year in 2012. “I didn’t know she had such a passion for acting,” Bhatt said, adding that Alia auditioned independently and impressed the team with her performance. “I was genuinely surprised. I had never seen this side of her before,” he admitted.

Mahesh Bhatt also opened up about how Alia’s evolution continues to amaze him. From taking bold risks in films to embracing diverse roles, he believes she stands out. He shared that even strangers approach him for photos just because he’s her father—an acknowledgment of her growing impact.

The filmmaker also spoke about how becoming a mother has added depth to Alia’s personality. Since welcoming her daughter, Raha Kapoor, in 2022, Bhatt sees a new level of maturity in her. He’s eager to watch her upcoming performances, believing they’ll reflect this transformation.

Touching on her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, Bhatt shared a comment from his son-in-law: “Alia is made of something different.” Ranbir, known for his relaxed nature, contrasts Alia’s unrelenting drive to constantly do more. “She’s a true go-getter,” Bhatt added.

Addressing nepotism more broadly, Bhatt acknowledged its presence but cautioned against oversimplification. “Nepotism is real, but talent doesn’t come guaranteed,” he stated. “Access is a major advantage, and many gifted individuals don’t even get that.” He emphasized that the public outcry over nepotism stems from a deeper frustration with lack of opportunity.

Alia Bhatt’s career has seen a consistent upward climb with acclaimed roles in Highway, Udta Punjab, Raazi, and Gangubai Kathiawadi. She’s now set to headline Alpha, a spy thriller under the YRF Spy Universe, slated for release on December 25.
