Indian-American Doctors Unite at AAPI’s 43rd Meet
Over a thousand Indian-American medical professionals gathered in Cincinnati, Ohio, from July 24 to 27, 2025, for the 43rd Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly hosted by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI). The landmark event, held at the Cincinnati Marriott and the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, was a blend of medical innovation, cultural pride, and leadership transition.
The highlight of the event was the ceremonial passing of leadership—Dr. Satheesh Kathula handed over the gavel to Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, the new AAPI President. Dr. Hetal Gor assumed the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees, beginning a new chapter of strategic growth and unity. Dr. Chakrabarty expressed a heartfelt commitment to strengthening ties with policymakers and uniting AAPI’s nationwide network.
The packed agenda featured sessions on artificial intelligence in healthcare, physician well-being, licensing forums, and leadership seminars. Notable speakers included Nobel Laureate Dr. Mario Capecchi and American Medical Association President Dr. Bobby Mukkamala. Kentucky Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval graced the event, commending AAPI physicians as “healthcare heroes.”
During the Board of Trustees luncheon, top physicians were recognized for excellence. Lifetime Achievement and Distinguished Physician Awards were presented to stalwarts like Dr. Navin Nanda and Dr. Krishan Kumar. Dr. Sudhir Parikh, founder of Parikh Worldwide Media, inspired the audience with his philanthropic work and plans to train doctors across India as part of his new role with the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO).
Cultural elements added vibrancy to the medical convention. Delegates enjoyed a scenic cruise on the River Queen and a “Biryani Night” featuring Bollywood entertainment. Morning wellness sessions and mental health workshops provided attendees tools for both personal and professional growth.
With over 120,000 members nationwide, AAPI is the second-largest medical association in the US after the AMA. The 43rd convention not only celebrated past achievements but also laid the groundwork for a future driven by innovation, collaboration, and a deep-rooted commitment to better healthcare for all.
