Rhea Kapoor Breaks Silence on Crew 2 Speculation
The 2024 hit film Crew, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu, became one of the most talked-about releases of the year, thanks to its mix of comedy, drama, and thrill. Following its massive box office success, reports began circulating that the makers were gearing up for a sequel, tentatively titled Crew 2. While speculation grew stronger after whispers of Kareena Kapoor showing interest in returning for the franchise, the film’s producer Rhea Kapoor has now stepped forward with an official clarification.
In her statement issued through Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network (AKFCN), Rhea addressed the swirling rumors directly. “We remain grateful for the love, curiosity, and critical acclaim that Crew continues to receive around the world. On behalf of AKFCN, we warmly congratulate Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon for the recognition and nominations their performances are earning,” the statement read.
Touching upon the speculation of a second part, Rhea emphasized that fans and audiences will have to wait for official updates. “As for what the future holds, any news about the next chapter of AKFCN, including where the world of Crew goes from here and the stories yet to come, will be shared by AKFCN in due course, when the time—and the stories—are ready,” the note continued.
This clarification comes after fans were eagerly awaiting confirmation of a sequel, given the first film’s strong commercial and critical run. Directed by Rajesh A. Krishnan, Crew told the story of three air hostesses who find themselves tangled in a gold smuggling racket. The screenplay, penned by Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri, combined sharp writing with quirky humor, making the film stand out as a unique entertainer.
Apart from the three leading ladies, the movie also featured Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma in key roles, adding further star power and comic timing to the ensemble. Released theatrically on March 29, 2024, the film went on to perform impressively at the box office. It grossed $18.1 million worldwide, while its domestic net collection stood at around $9.7 million. These numbers cemented Crew as one of the year’s major box office successes.
Currently available for streaming on Netflix, the film continues to enjoy a wide audience base, with viewers praising both its humor and bold storyline. While the future of Crew 2 remains under wraps, Rhea Kapoor’s statement ensures that fans can look forward to official updates at the right time. For now, the legacy of Crew lives on through its streaming presence and the buzz surrounding its potential sequel.
