Aamir Khan Shares Latest Update on 3 Idiots 2

Aamir Khan has offered a fresh update on the anticipated sequel to 3 Idiots, revealing that filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is continuing to develop the screenplay. The actor shared the news while attending the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), where he received the Screen Icon Award. Before discussing the project, Khan checked with Hirani about how much information he could disclose publicly.
Khan explained that he expects Hirani to narrate the latest version of the script within the next few weeks, once he returns from his current commitments. His comments suggest that the project remains in development, with the screenplay still awaiting further review before production can move forward.
The sequel first came into discussion earlier this year. In a previous interview with Amar Ujala, Khan confirmed that Hirani was actively working on the story and described the concept as promising. He also indicated that the new installment would retain the original film’s humor while following its central characters approximately a decade after the events of the first movie.
The actor has previously expressed enthusiasm about returning to the franchise and reprising his role as Phunsukh Wangdu, popularly known as Rancho. He credited Hirani and screenwriter Abhijat Joshi with shaping the sequel’s story and described the concept positively.
Released in 2009, 3 Idiots featured Khan alongside R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Boman Irani. The film became a widely recognized entry in Hindi cinema, making news of a follow-up particularly noteworthy for fans.
Despite Khan’s latest remarks, the sequel has no officially confirmed filming schedule or release date. Earlier reports suggested production might begin around April 2027, but the filmmakers have not formally confirmed that timeline.
