Governor McKee Celebrates Diwali with Indian-American Community
Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKee joined the Foundation of Indian-Americans (FIA) – New England and the Indian-American community at the State House to celebrate Diwali. The event began with a traditional lamp lighting, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. Governor McKee extended warm wishes and applauded the community’s role in public service and volunteer work. He also inaugurated FIA’s annual food drive, aiming to collect over 20,000 pounds of non-perishable items across Rhode Island and New England.
During the ceremony, McKee honored Subrata Das for his excellence in theater and Mohan Nannapaneni for his humanitarian work. FIA President Abhishek Singh encouraged everyone to embrace Diwali’s message of unity and reflection. The evening featured cultural performances and renditions of both the Indian and American national anthems. FIA leaders closed the event, reaffirming their mission to spread the true spirit of Diwali—service and togetherness.
