Sanjay Mishra Opens Up About ‘Bhakshak’ and His Journey
Sanjay Mishra is looking back at a career spanning nearly three decades as he reflects on some of the roles and experiences that have shaped his journey in Indian cinema. The actor recently received the Best Actor in a Supporting Role honor at the 72nd National Film Awards for his performance in Bhakshak, adding another significant achievement to his long career.
In Bhakshak, Mishra portrays a cameraman who becomes involved in a journalist’s determined effort to investigate a case connected to a shelter home. The character required him to approach his performance differently because, rather than being positioned at the center of the action, he was portraying someone whose work takes place behind the camera.
Mishra explained that filming the role involved an unpredictable schedule, with scenes sometimes being shot during the night and at other times in the morning. Playing a cameraman also made him reflect on the people who work behind the scenes while others receive the attention and recognition. For him, the experience raised questions about how stories are created and who contributes to them without becoming part of the public spotlight.
The actor also recalled an important period in his early career when he worked alongside Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn. At the time, Mishra was coping with the death of his father while also trying to remain financially secure through acting assignments. He remembers being particularly thrilled when the two established actors appreciated his performance after he delivered a dialogue during filming.
That memory remains meaningful to Mishra because it came during a difficult stage of his life. He recalled the encouragement he received on set and how the response to his performance became a memorable moment in his career.
Mishra is now documenting those experiences himself. The actor revealed that he is working on an autobiography covering his professional journey, personal struggles and the turning points that influenced his career. He also recalled his early work on the television series Chanakya in 1991, when nervousness affected his first major acting experience. A senior’s reassuring response to that setback stayed with him and offered an early lesson in perseverance.
On the work front, Mishra was most recently seen in Dhamaal 4, alongside Ajay Devgn, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Anjali Anand, Ravi Kishan, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Esha Gupta and Jaaved Jaaferi.
