Taj Express: The Bollywood Musical Arrives in US

Taj Express, an Internationally acclaimed musical based out of Mumbai, India, will be coming to the United States in early 2017. Taj Express explodes with the sounds of India and Bollywood, capturing the vibrant, expressive spirit of the world of Bollywood movies that have been entertaining billions of people in India for generations.

Through a fusion of film, dance, and music, Taj Express takes audiences on a romantic, musical adventure. The energetic dance routines, powerful emotions, gorgeously colourful costumes and exotic locations of Taj Express bring a Bollywood movie feel to the stage.

Abhijit Vagani is the Music Director for the show and Salim-Sulaiman Merchant has composed the title track for Taj Express. Music plays an integral role in the show as the story is the journey of a Music Composer composing music for film. The musical will showcase top Bollywood hits as well as folk and traditional Indian music.

The bold, colorful costumes bring alive a kaleidoscopic India. Designed by Bipin Tanna, the costumes, through the color, details, and fabric, play a part in telling a story. Inspiration for the costumes came from glimpses of Incredible India put together with a sense of drama to bring to the audiences the extravaganza that is the Taj Express.

Produced, directed, and choreographed entirely by an Indian company, Taj Express is a show that is created by the people living and working in the Bollywood Film Industry. Audiences will feel just as if a Bollywood film found itself on stage. Actor Mikhail Sen in his role as Shankar states, “Playing Shankar in Taj Express has opened me up to a different world. Shankar is a young music director working on his first Bollywood film. In his journey to find the music, the film starts to reveal sides of Shankar that he didn’t know existed.”
