Indian Television Academy 2012 Awards
On November 4, the Indian Television Academy (ITA) celebrated the 12th year of its crowning endeavor, the ITA Awards, which have today become the most coveted stamp of excellence on the canvas of television.
At Andheri Sports Complex in suburban Mumbai, this biggest night of the small screen was held with rare razzle-dazzle. The venue was awash with a who’s who of individuals in the television industry, either as performers, nominees, or presenters. While each Award was cheered for with great enthusiasm by all those present, ceremony highlights included jaw-dropping performances and acts, performed by today’s biggest television heartthrobs such as Gurmeet Choudhary, Hina Khan, Nia Sharma, Angad Haseja, Ritwik Dhanjani, Rati Pandey, Deepika Singh, Drashti Dhami, Amir Ali, Karan Wahi, Jay Bhanushali, Manish Raisinghani, and Anirudh Dave.
A specially designed and dazzlingly executed perfomance comprised of the fabulous little masters of Dance India Dance along with the stars of Jhalak Dikhla Ja. The entire show flowed nicely due to the excellent hosting skills of Ridhi Dogra, Karan Grover and Karan Kundra, while Neelu Waghela (Bhaabho in Diya Bati) and Utkarsha Naik (Manorama in Iss Pyar Ko) managed the red carpet.
One of the major highlights of the evening was when the ITA honored four Olympian victors – Sushil Kumar (Silver Medal in Wrestling), Vijay Kumar (Silver Medal in Shooting), Gagan Narang (Bronze Medal in Shooting) and Yogeshwar Dutt (Bronze Medal in Wrestling).
This year, the ITA Scroll of Honor – Global Recognition was awarded to Anil Kapoor for his achievements in films as well as on television. The award specially commemorated his efforts to bring Indian television to par with global standards by attempting an Indian version of the iconic Fox series, 24. The honor was presented by superstar, Jeetendra.
The ceremony exuded an overwhelming touch of nostalgia when Salma Sultan, Alok Nath and Neena Gupta took to the mike to extol the virtues and accomplishments of television programming over the years.
