Indian Celebrity Weddings – 2026

The year 2026 has been a memorable one for celebrity weddings in India. From cricketing royalty to film stars and young entrepreneurs, several high-profile weddings captured public attention while beautifully blending tradition with modern elegance. These celebrations were not merely star-studded affairs; they reflected evolving wedding trends where families embraced cultural heritage while creating personalized experiences for their guests.
Among the most talked-about weddings of the year were those of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok, Allu Sirish and Nayanika Reddy, and Juhi Chikhlia and Divij Agrawal. Each wedding showcased a unique love story and demonstrated how modern Indian couples are redefining wedding celebrations while staying connected to their roots.
Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok: A Wedding That Captivated India
One of the most anticipated weddings of 2026 was the marriage of cricketer Arjun Tendulkar and entrepreneur Saaniya Chandhok. The wedding generated enormous excitement among cricket fans and social media followers who had closely followed the couple’s journey. The couple got married on March 5, 2026, in Mumbai after a private engagement in August 2025. Their celebrations extended over several days and included grand pre-wedding festivities that attracted some of India’s most influential personalities from the worlds of cricket, entertainment, business, and politics.
What made the wedding particularly special was its thoughtful blend of traditions. Reports revealed that the couple incorporated both Maharashtrian and Punjabi customs into their celebrations, reflecting their family backgrounds and creating a beautiful cultural fusion. The festivities included a vibrant mehendi and sangeet celebration attended by cricket legends and celebrities, while the main wedding ceremony embraced traditional rituals with contemporary elegance.
The wedding décor was equally impressive. Guests witnessed a breathtaking ceremony setup featuring a specially designed mandap and luxurious floral arrangements. The celebrations balanced grandeur with personal touches, making the event feel intimate despite the extensive guest list. Singer Harshdeep Kaur’s performance during the bridal entry added an emotional and memorable element to the ceremony. As the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun’s wedding naturally attracted widespread media attention. Yet beyond the glamour, the celebrations reflected a growing trend among modern couples: creating weddings that honor family traditions while incorporating contemporary aesthetics and personalized experiences.
Allu Sirish and Nayanika Reddy: A Celebration of Love and Telugu Heritage
Another grand wedding that captured national attention was that of Telugu actor Allu Sirish and entrepreneur Nayanika Reddy. The couple tied the knot on March 6, 2026, in Hyderabad in a lavish ceremony attended by family members, close friends, industry leaders, and prominent personalities.Their love story began several years earlier during the wedding celebrations of actors Varun Tej and Lavanya Tripathi. While they had met before, it was during those festivities that they truly connected and began spending time together. Their relationship blossomed over the following years, eventually leading to an engagement announcement in October 2025 that quickly went viral on social media.
Nayanika Reddy is an entrepreneur and a graduate of the London School of Economics. Together, the couple became one of the most admired pairs in the Telugu entertainment industry. Their relationship gained further visibility through features in prestigious publications, including Vogue India and Robb Report India, where they shared insights into their relationship and future plans.
Their wedding celebrations extended over five days and were deeply rooted in Telugu traditions. Every ceremony highlighted the richness of South Indian culture, from traditional rituals and family customs to authentic regional cuisine and classical décor elements.Fashion also played a major role in the celebrations. Nayanika stunned guests in an elegant Kanjivaram saree paired with exquisite diamond and ruby jewelry, while Allu Sirish complemented her look in an ivory sherwani with a traditional dhoti. Their wedding attire perfectly reflected the growing preference among modern couples for timeless traditional ensembles over heavily westernized wedding fashion.
What stood out most about their wedding was its balance between grandeur and authenticity. Despite being one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year, the event remained deeply personal and focused on family values, rituals, and meaningful traditions. It demonstrated how modern celebrity weddings can celebrate heritage without compromising sophistication and style.
Juhi Chikhlia and Divij Agrawal: A Joyful Union Filled with Warmth
Adding to the list of memorable weddings in 2026 was the marriage of Juhi Chikhlia and Divij Agrawal. Their wedding was marked by joyful celebrations, heartfelt moments, and a strong emphasis on family togetherness.
Unlike some of the larger celebrity spectacles, their celebrations resonated with audiences because of their warmth and authenticity. The couple’s wedding festivities featured vibrant ceremonies, emotional family moments, and colorful traditions that reflected the spirit of Indian weddings.Friends and family members gathered to celebrate the beginning of their new journey, creating an atmosphere filled with happiness and genuine affection. From lively pre-wedding functions to the wedding ceremony itself, every event highlighted the importance of relationships, community, and shared joy.
Their wedding also reflected a broader trend emerging across India in 2026: couples increasingly prioritizing meaningful experiences over excessive extravagance. Personalized ceremonies, emotional storytelling, and family participation have become defining features of contemporary Indian weddings, and Juhi and Divij’s celebration beautifully embodied this movement.
Wedding Trends Defining 2026
These grand weddings also revealed several important trends that are shaping the future of Indian celebrations.
Tradition with a Modern Twist
Whether it was the Marathi-Punjabi fusion seen in Arjun and Saaniya’s wedding or the deeply rooted Telugu customs celebrated by Allu Sirish and Nayanika, couples are embracing their cultural identities while adding contemporary elements. Rather than abandoning traditions, they are reimagining them for a modern audience.
Multi-Day Wedding Experiences
The concept of weddings as immersive experiences continues to grow. Couples are organizing celebrations that span several days, allowing guests to participate in diverse events ranging from intimate family gatherings to large-scale entertainment programs.
Personalized Storytelling
Modern weddings increasingly focus on telling the couple’s unique story. Customized décor, personalized vows, curated music selections, and meaningful rituals help create celebrations that feel authentic rather than formulaic.
Social Media-Friendly Celebrations
Digital storytelling has become an essential aspect of weddings. Professionally curated photography, cinematic wedding films, and carefully designed venues ensure that every moment can be shared and remembered for years to come.
Return to Traditional Fashion
Despite the influence of global trends, traditional Indian attire remains the preferred choice for many couples. Handwoven sarees, heritage jewelry, embroidered sherwanis, and regional textiles continue to dominate wedding fashion.
Celebrations That Defined 2026
The grand weddings of 2026 demonstrated that modern Indian celebrations are evolving in exciting ways. While luxury and scale continue to impress, the true focus has shifted toward authenticity, cultural pride, and personal storytelling.
Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok’s glamorous yet tradition-rich wedding captured the imagination of cricket fans across the country. Allu Sirish and Nayanika Reddy’s elegant Hyderabad ceremony celebrated Telugu heritage with remarkable grace and sophistication. Meanwhile, Juhi Chikhlia and Divij Agrawal’s heartfelt celebrations reminded everyone that the essence of a wedding lies in love, family, and shared happiness.
Together, these weddings set new benchmarks for how modern Indian couples can honor tradition while creating unforgettable experiences. As wedding trends continue to evolve, 2026 will undoubtedly be remembered as a year when grandeur met authenticity, and timeless customs found beautiful new expressions.

Brianna and Rushi
A Medical School Romance Celebrated with Love, Tradition, and Family in Orlando

Brianna Karim, a 26-year-old medical student, and Rushi Vekariya, also 26 and a medical student, celebrated their wedding on December 21, 2025, at the Sheraton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort in Orlando, Florida. With 250 guests in attendance, the couple hosted both their wedding ceremony and reception at the same venue, creating a seamless and elegant celebration filled with meaningful traditions, vibrant décor, and unforgettable moments.
The couple’s story began in 2020 at an American Medical Student Association meeting at the University of Florida. Brianna attended the meeting with a mutual friend, who noticed Rushi sitting in another row and invited him to join them. Rushi sat next to Brianna, unknowingly beginning a relationship that would eventually lead to marriage. The two spent time together often within their mutual friend group before the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to return home and pause in-person interactions. Once school resumed, they began spending time together again in smaller groups, allowing them to grow closer. Through these quieter moments during the pandemic, their bond strengthened, and they officially began dating in November 2020.

Rushi proposed on March 1, 2025, at Lake Baldwin Park in Orlando, Florida. He planned a thoughtful day that included shopping at the Mall at Millenia, one of Brianna’s favorite activities, followed by dinner at Seito Sushi in Baldwin Park. As the sun began to set, the couple walked around the park together before Rushi led Brianna to a dock connected to a decorated gazebo. Brianna suspected that something special was about to happen but was happy to enjoy every moment. Having just completed an exam the previous day, she was excited to relax during Spring Break with Rushi. Meanwhile, Rushi was nervous but excited, hoping every detail would come together perfectly. The beautiful weather and peaceful setting made the proposal even more memorable. Afterward, the celebrations continued at home, where Brianna was surprised by close friends gathered with food, cake, music, and decorations to celebrate the engagement.

Although the couple did not hire a wedding planner, they successfully balanced wedding planning alongside the demands of medical school with the help of supportive family and friends. Brianna had a clear vision for the wedding and received guidance, advice, and encouragement from loved ones throughout the planning process. Despite exam schedules and clinical rotations, the couple leaned on their support system during stressful periods, especially when coordinating meetings with vendors.

The couple considered venues in both Orlando and Tampa before deciding on Orlando, where Brianna and her family are based. Rushi and his family are from outside Tampa. Orlando ultimately offered more venue availability within their shorter planning timeline. They selected the Sheraton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort because it provided everything they needed, including guest room discounts, open bar options, grand ballrooms, minimal restrictions on outside food, and complimentary accommodations for the bride and groom.
The wedding festivities included a Mehndi, Haldi, and Garba celebration. The Mehndi was held at the couple’s home in Orlando and featured colorful backdrops, marigolds, hanging decorations, and fresh flowers arranged in gold vases. The Haldi and Garba took place at the Rosen JCC Orlando. The outdoor Haldi ceremony featured gold seating, floral décor in bright colors, and guests dressed in yellow and other vibrant shades. The Garba celebration embraced blue, hot pink, and gold tones, with colorful tablecloths, lanterns, manzanita tree centerpieces, and a stage featuring a traditional gold swing placed on a pink Moroccan rug surrounded by flowers and candles.
For the wedding ceremony, the couple envisioned a light and airy atmosphere with gold accents, greenery, and peach florals. Held indoors at 2 p.m., the mandap featured peach drapery, hanging green and white wisteria, and a wooden frame of Lord Ganesh centered against the backdrop. Guests were provided with custom-made Wedding Guides explaining each step of the ceremony, along with tissues and Indian sweets placed on every chair. The Baarat music reflected the couple’s diverse tastes, combining Bollywood, hip hop, R&B, and Hispanic music, while the ceremony itself featured more traditional Indian songs.
Rushi made a memorable entrance to the ceremony in a modern electric carriage, dancing throughout the Baarat with friends and family. Since the ceremony and reception were held in different ballrooms within the same venue, no travel was necessary between events. After the ceremony, the newlyweds departed in a red Ferrari.
The reception embraced warm champagne and gold décor accented with burgundy and light pink tones. Tall gold centerpieces, floral pedestals, chandeliers, greenery, and elegant floral arrangements created a sophisticated atmosphere. The ballroom also featured custom lighting, including a monogram of the couple’s names and wedding date. The bridal party entrances added energy and excitement, with the groomsmen dancing to “Fein x Khutti (JAZ Scape Mashup)” and the bridesmaids entering to “Desi Girl x Akon” by DJ Ganesh.

Music throughout the evening included Bollywood, hip hop, R&B, Chutney/Soca, and Hispanic genres. The couple’s first dance was a choreographed medley featuring “Kesariya” by Arijit Singh, “White Brown Black” by Avvy Sra, Jaani, and Karan Aujla, and “The Wedding Party” by Ravi B. The father-daughter dance featured “Give Me Away” by Riley Roth, while the mother-son dance was set to “Maa” by Shankar Mahadevan.
The couple also incorporated several personal touches into the celebration, including custom signature drinks called “Berry in Love” and “Spice of Life.” One of the most emotional moments of the wedding was their first look, when Rushi became emotional seeing Brianna fully dressed in her bridal outfit, jewelry, and makeup for the first time. Amid the excitement and busyness of the wedding day, it became a calm and meaningful moment focused entirely on each other.

Shrusti and Rishi
From Chance Introduction to Northern Lights Proposal:
The Wedding of Shrusti Patel and Rishi Amin
The wedding of Shrusti Patel and Rishi Amin was a grand multi-day celebration held on October 12th, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee. The ceremony took place at Wasioto Park and the Bridge Building, while the reception was hosted at Embassy Suites by Hilton Franklin Cool Springs. With nearly 600 guests in attendance, the wedding blended tradition, storytelling, and modern design into an unforgettable experience.

The couple’s journey began in 2021 when they were first introduced through a mutual family friend. At that time, neither of them pursued anything further due to timing and life circumstances. In 2023, they were reintroduced by the same friend. This time, their connection felt different and more natural. Conversations started flowing easily and quickly turned into something meaningful. Shrusti was living in Philadelphia and Rishi was based in Chicago, so the relationship began long distance. Over the next year, they traveled frequently between cities, met each other’s families, and built a strong emotional foundation. Their relationship reached a turning point during a trip to Finland when Rishi proposed under the Northern Lights.
The proposal took place in the Arctic Circle in Finland during a planned trip to see the Aurora Borealis. Rishi arranged a private viewing experience with the help of a tour guide. After an unsuccessful first night due to weather conditions, the second night became magical when the sky lit up with vibrant colors. While Shrusti was focused on capturing photographs of the lights, Rishi surprised her by getting down on one knee and proposing. The moment felt surreal and emotional, made even more special by the fact that a candid photo she was trying to take ended up capturing the proposal itself.
Wedding planning was a deeply collaborative family effort. A professional planner was brought in later, but much of the groundwork was handled by both families. Shrusti’s uncle and aunt, Amit and Payal, played a major role in shaping the wedding from the beginning, assisting with logistics, design, and coordination. Their involvement made the entire process feel personal and meaningful. The couple chose Nashville as their destination wedding location after discovering a scenic waterfront property that aligned perfectly with their vision. Although neither family was based there, the location offered a destination feel without international travel. Considerable effort went into permits, coordination, and logistics to bring the outdoor vision to life.

The pre-wedding events each had distinct themes. The Mehendi was designed with a soft boho aesthetic featuring neutral drapes, pampas grass, candles, wicker textures, and blush floral arrangements. The Vidhi and Haldi ceremonies were vibrant and traditional with marigold décor, colorful backdrops, lanterns, and interactive guest activities including a canvas reveal. The Sangeet transformed the barn into a Moroccan-inspired space with jewel tones, hanging lanterns, velvet textures, and dramatic lighting that created an immersive celebration.
The wedding ceremony was held outdoors in the evening at 7 PM with the Nashville skyline as a backdrop. Inspired by the wedding sequence in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the mandap design was grand and cinematic. One of the most memorable moments was Shrusti’s entrance into the mandap through a hidden staircase, a vision that required extensive planning and last-minute problem solving before it was successfully executed.
Music played an important role throughout the celebration. The Baraat featured a live dhol team that created an energetic atmosphere as guests danced from the waterfront to the ceremony space. The groom arrived by boat with his groomsmen, adding a unique and lively start to the day. The ceremony included live singers and musicians performing traditional songs, enhancing the emotional atmosphere.

The reception embraced a modern luxury theme with a black, white, and gold color palette. The ballroom featured mirrored accents, candles, acrylic seating, and white floral arrangements including roses, hydrangeas, and lisianthus. Instead of a traditional stage setup, the DJ booth and LED screens became the focal point, creating an immersive party atmosphere. The bridal party entrance included custom props, LED lights, and oversized photo cutouts that energized the room.
The couple’s first dance included “Ordinary” by Alex Warren and “Tum Ho Toh” from Saiyaara. The father daughter dance was “Meri Duniya Tu Hi Re” by Sonu Nigam, and the mother son dance was “It’s the Time to Disco” by Vasundhara Das, KK, and Shaan.
The reception music blended Bollywood, Punjabi, hip hop, and global hits, keeping guests on the dance floor throughout the night. One of the most memorable spontaneous moments came when everyone gathered for “Mr. Brightside,” creating a final emotional singalong.
Personal touches were present throughout the wedding. Shrusti wore her mother’s wedding saree during the garland exchange, which also honored her grandparents who originally gifted it. DIY elements included custom signage, engraved favors, photo sharing QR codes, and personalized props for entrances. A major highlight was the emotional reveal of the fully designed mandap, which exceeded expectations and left guests in awe.
Despite weather anxieties leading up to the wedding and a humorous moment during the Haldi when the groom’s ring was temporarily lost, everything came together beautifully. The couple’s biggest advice to others is to stay present, focus on loved ones, and remember that the most meaningful memories often come from unplanned moments.

Nazia & Derrick
A Wedding Rooted in Love, Culture, and Meaning: Nazia Rahman & Derrick Myers Celebrate in Orlando
Some love stories grow quietly over time, and for Nazia Rahman, a 33-year-old pharmacist, and Derrick Myers, a 38-year-old attorney, theirs began through mutual friends. What started as casual group hangouts slowly developed into something deeper.

Over the years, shared experiences and milestones strengthened their bond. “Over time, we realized how much we enjoyed each other’s company and that our personalities and values complemented each other perfectly,” Nazia recalls. Their connection was built on friendship, understanding, and a mutual respect that made their relationship feel natural and steady.
The proposal was equally meaningful. Derrick chose the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a place significant to their early memories, to ask Nazia to marry him. Nervous but heartfelt, his proposal left Nazia with a sense of joy and certainty. “I knew at that moment that I was saying yes to my best friend,” she says.
On December 14, 2025, the couple celebrated their wedding at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by 150 to 200 family members and friends. Orlando was chosen for its familiarity and convenience, allowing loved ones to easily attend the celebration. Aided by their planner, Nagina, Nazia and Derrick navigated the planning process smoothly. “Her calm approach and organization made the entire experience enjoyable,” Nazia says. The festivities began with a vibrant outdoor mehndi. The stage, framed with marigolds and roses in orange, yellow, coral, and blush, sat above ivory settees and hanging floral garlands. Brass lanterns, baskets of marigolds, and playful details like a red parasol with hanging beads added warmth and charm. Food carts encouraged guests to mingle, a henna artist offered intricate designs, and a small bazaar with polki bags, gajras, and jhumkas added a festive touch. Bollywood beats filled the air, with family performances and songs creating a personal and joyful atmosphere. The groom entered dancing to “Saajanji Ghar Aaye” from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, followed by Nazia and her cousins to “Mehndi Hai Rachnewali.”
The reception embraced elegance and romance. Black velvet linens provided a dramatic base for the décor, while white roses and soft blooms with greenery added freshness. Gold candle holders with floating candles cast a warm glow, and textured glass chargers and gold flatware gave each table a polished look. The stage featured gold-framed cascading white flowers, crystal chandeliers, and a cream loveseat for the couple. Nazia and Derrick entered hand in hand to “Mahiya Jinna Sohna” by Darshan Raval, walking onto a white dance floor featuring their monogram and wedding date.
Music played throughout the evening, blending Bollywood, American, and jazz tunes to create a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. “We wanted the night to be about enjoying time with family and friends rather than following a strict program,” Nazia explains. Instead of performances or a first dance, the focus was on connection and celebration.Personal touches made the day memorable. A 360° photo booth, Polaroid cameras at the entrance, and a Jenga guest book encouraged guests to leave messages and create keepsakes. These small details reflected the couple’s personalities and made their wedding interactive and fun.
Some of the most memorable moments were quiet ones—seeing each other for the first time before the festivities began and walking into the decorated venues. “The colors, flowers, and details made the days feel magical and completely ‘us,’” Nazia reflects. Their advice to other couples? “Stay calm, focus on what matters, and take a moment to pause and enjoy the day. It goes by faster than you think.”

Shaadi 2.0: When a Silver Anniversary Becomes a Destination Wedding
By Rema DeoGrowing up in Mumbai, weddings were many things – loud, loving, elaborate – but they were never flown to. After moving to Florida, I was fortunate to attend my first destination wedding. Destination weddings, after all, are extremely popular among young couples these days. But a destination wedding anniversary? The only one I could recall was from the Bollywood film Dil Dhadakne Do, where a couple celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary by inviting friends and family on a Mediterranean cruise. Other than that, every anniversary celebration I had attended was a party – usually close to home.
That is, until this past December.

LOCATION Udaipur, India – The City of Lakes | OCCASION 25th Wedding Anniversary | EVENTS Mehndi, Sangeet, Haldi, Sajjan Goth, Baraat & Reception | DRESS CODES Green, Bling, Yellow/Blue/Pink, Ivory/Red | VENUE Sayaji Resorts & Spa, Udaipur | Theme: Traditional Marwadi-Style
Celebration | TAKEAWAY Proof that anniversaries can be just as grand as weddings
Destination – the City of Lakes
I had the privilege of attending the 25th wedding anniversary celebrations of my close friends, Radhika Agarwal and Krishan Garg. Though they live near us in South Florida, they chose to celebrate their silver anniversary with a destination event in the beautiful city of Udaipur, India. As Radhika explained, “Our wedding was nothing like today’s marriages in India, so we had an opportunity to do it all over again, and both of us being Marwadis, what better location than Udaipur to have a typical Marwadi-style anniversary, since there are so many heritage/palace hotels there!”

Shaadi 2.0 – Same Couple, Renewing the Relationship
And what a celebration it was! This was no ordinary anniversary – It was a grand, traditional renewal of vows (as they would say in the US). It felt so much like a wedding (Shaadi) that Radhika and Krishan fondly referred to it as Shaadi 2.0. For that reason, we’ll happily refer to them as the bride and groom throughout this article.
Five Events, Four Outfit Changes, Zero Regret
The events began on Saturday morning with the arrival of guests. Five main events were planned over the weekend, starting Saturday afternoon: Mehndi (henna application), Sangeet (musical night), Haldi (turmeric purification ceremony), and Sajjan Goth (a lavish Rajasthani feast), culminating on Sunday night with a baraat (wedding procession), varmala (garland exchange), and reception. Each event had its own dress code – green for mehndi, bling for sangeet, yellow/blue/pink for haldi and Sajjan Goth, and ivory/red for the baraat and reception. All events were held at Sayaji Resorts and Spa Udaipur, a luxurious five-star resort with stunning views of the Aravalli hills.
As we drove into the resort entrance around 11 a.m. on Saturday, we were greeted by an enthusiastic dhol player and his team – along with the groom himself! The dhol leader narrated humorous verses while photographers and videographers jumped straight into action. So, we entered the lobby dancing to the rhythmic beats of the dhol (barrel-shaped drum). After the formalities of checking-in were completed, we were taken by golf cart to our building. The resort’s multiple heritage-style structures, complete with Rajasthani architectural details, immediately set the tone.
Mehndi Mania (Filled with Dancing and Henna)The mehndi ceremony officially kicked off the weekend, with the bride and groom making a lively dancing entrance to the beat of the dhol. The emcee kept the energy high with games and audience interaction. Soon after, the bride’s mehndi application began. At the back, there was a team of henna artists whose job was to apply mehndi to any of the guests who desired it – and yes, many of us, myself included, took advantage and got the henna tattoos on our palms. During this time, the games continued, and some of the younger kids also entertained us with adorable dance performances.
It’s All about Family
One of the most striking aspects of the weekend was the involvement and dedication of both families. They were deeply engaged in every detail, supporting the couple at every step. As friends, we felt welcomed and cared for throughout. The level of hospitality was humbling and truly incomparable.
A Gastronomic Journey – Iconic Dishes and Regional Delicacies
No Indian celebration is complete without abundant food, and this one delivered in every sense. Each meal featured an extensive spread of Indian, Continental, and Oriental dishes. The variety was astounding – trying everything was impossible – but everything I tasted was delicious and clearly prepared with care. Krishan and Radhika had personally supervised the menu planning. As Krishan shared, “The hotel chef was extremely accommodating and ready to serve our highly personalized menu.” Their thoughtfulness showed in every detail – from varying spice levels to accommodate different palates, to ensure that gluten-free bread was available at every meal to suit my dietary needs. I was truly grateful.
Dance Practice in the Hotel Hallway
As in any traditional Indian wedding, there were choreographed dance performances by family members and friends. So, of course, all of us who traveled from the US to Udaipur for the anniversary learned a choreographed dance to perform at the sangeet. Planning and practicing were fun, even though we did not practice very much. We enlisted the help of one of our talented friends in Florida, an acclaimed dance teacher, to choreograph a simple routine.
Our children (now all adults), also performed a choreographed dance, which was especially impressive considering that they practiced for just two hours between the mehndi and sangeet on Saturday.
Sangeet Filled with Bling – High Energy, High Decibel
Once the bride and groom made their entrance, the sangeet began with a bang – literally – with light fireworks inside the banquet hall! Only in India! Our kids performed first, followed by our group, and then lively couple dances by some of the family members. The grand finale was when Krishan and Radhika took the stage for their romantic dance number. The sangeet night continued after that with a regional sufi singer entertaining the audience for hours. Sufi music is a devotional, mystical style of singing designed to connect the soul with the divine.
Haldi – Sunshine in Fabric and Flowers
Sunday morning began with breakfast, followed by the haldi ceremony. Before describing the ceremony itself, it’s worth mentioning the stunning décor throughout the weekend. Each event reflected its color theme – green fabrics for mehndi, vibrant florals for sangeet, and for haldi, a breathtaking open-air venue draped in yellow fabric panels and filled with yellow and orange flowers.
While the haldi ceremony traditionally involves turmeric purification, it has evolved into showers of yellow flowers. Before that, the emcee organized games to increase audience participation with Krishan’s team pitted against Radhika’s team to earn the maximum points. More dance performances from multiple family members and friends added to the cheer.
The enthusiastic participation of the couple’s relatives and friends underscored how respected they both were and showed how they have maintained their relationships over the years. Both Radhika and Krishan’s childhood, school and college friends came in full strength to attend, and many of them even practiced and performed group dances. How wonderful it was to see these friendships that have sustained across continents, over decades!
Royal Treatment, Literally
After haldi, lunch was served – but this was no ordinary meal. The Sajjan Goth featured rows of thrones, each guest seated with a table and silver platter. The bride’s family then came around and served us multiple courses of traditional Rajasthani food.
We were not guests. We were royalty.
After that sumptuous feast, there was no way that we could have gotten through the rest of that Sunday without an afternoon siesta. Refreshed, we got ready for the evening’s final celebrations. Before the baraat (wedding procession), male guests were fitted with safas (traditional Rajasthani turbans). Seeing the young men in suits and turbans really made me pleased that my sons were getting to participate in such a traditional wedding ceremony. The emcee and the DJ led the dancing procession through the resort grounds and eventually to the reception venue. The bride and groom exchanged garlands during the varmala amidst spectacular lights and fireworks.
Honoring the Miles Already Traveled
The evening continued with a moving slideshow of photographs from the couple’s life, with guests sharing memories and stories. Many spoke about their relationships with Radhika and Krishan, and the couple responded with heartfelt gratitude. A highlight of the evening was when their daughters Riya and Rashi took to the microphone to express their thoughts for the anniversary and most of all, their gratitude to their parents.
This celebration wasn’t about beginning a journey – It was about honoring the miles already traveled. After taking the customary group photos, we said our goodbyes and retired for the night.
As we continued our travels within India and during and after our return to Florida, we remained in a high after this hectic and thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable wedding anniversary weekend. If my younger Mumbai self could see me now – flying across the world for a silver anniversary Shaadi – she would probably just ask one question: “What’s the dress code?”
