Rudra on Top: Ajay Devgan’s Successful OTT Debut
He’s a superstar and has achieved several milestones in his long career. And now, the OTT debut of Ajay Devgan has also been a very successful venture. The 6-episode web series Rudra: The Edge of Darkness features Ajay Devgan in the lead role of Rudraveer Pratap Singh, a senior police officer. The thriller series hit the jackpot in its first week and became the most-viewed series ever in the Hotstar Originals section of the streaming platform Disney+Hotstar. This tough cop is hard on criminals and leaves no stone unturned in catching them. The series also stars Esha Deol, Raashii Khanna, Ashish Vidyarthi, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, and Milind Gunaji in different roles. It is produced by Applause Entertainment and is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. It is an official adaptation of BBC One’s series Luther.
Viewers have liked the series ever since its release on March 4, 2022. All six episodes were released on that date, and the positive reviews started coming in from Day 1. The thrills of the series, the character of Rudra and his colleagues and his wife (played by Esha Deol), and the intelligent mystery-solving methods of Rudra all were received with high acclaim. Many of the viewers are eager to see the next season soon, as expressed in their social media handles. The record-smashing viewership record has been referred to by the term ‘tod fod’ (smashing) by Ajay Devgan in his social media handle. Incidentally, ‘tod fod’ is also the name of the last episode.
