January 2016

Dear Readers,

Happy New Year! We hope you had a festive and merry holiday with friends and family.

Now that it’s January once again, we thought it appropriate to focus on finance! Exciting, right? I imagine you’re groaning as you read this as the thought of taxes, life insurance, and college funding are not at the top of your list of fun things to do! Unfortunately, we all have to pay our taxes, and we all have to think about securing our financial futures.

This issue, Umang Thakkar, founder and owner of Incorp Tax Act in the Atlanta-area, offers year end advice to get you on the right path before April rolls around. If you’ve been considering a professional for investment help, don’t miss the article about choosing the right financial planner for your family by Rina Shah of The Arpan Group.

In an article by our own staff writer, Faren Rajkumar, the great work the many NGOs in our community do to serve those less fortunate is highlighted. We are a community that gives with our hearts, wallets, and even time, so it is wonderful to see these organizations thrive and prosper in our midst.

Last year, you may have noticed our new column, Ask the Doctor! Dr. Saira Gillani answers some questions this issue. If you have any health-related questions, be sure to send them our way to info@deshvidesh.com.

Now that 2016 is upon us, we are busy planning for our first three MyShadi Bridal Expos of the year. First up will be our show in Atlanta on Sunday, March 20, at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel. We are happy to announce that we will also host a Destination Wedding Pavilion at this Expo. The next two shows will be in Ft. Lauderdale at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa on Sunday, April 3, and in Tampa at Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort. Be sure to register online (myshadibridalexpo.com) to attend, and as always, parking and admission are free!
