We write so much,
but we mean so little.

We read so much,
but we understand so little.

We feel so much,
but we love so little.

We crave so much,

I Realized…

I thought
I’m an artist,
only to realize
I’m an amateur.

I was learning,

I forgot my sorrows.

I was lonely.

Endless Pursuits

I am cursed with
Too many dreams.

I have tried like seventeen things,
Which means sixteen are incomplete.

This gives them a reason to laugh,
And my loved ones to scream.

However, here I am,
Trying out an eighteenth thing

I am not sure if I’ll succeed,
But I know I’ll bloom.

About the Poet

I am Yashvi Shah, 23 years old, and I live in Anjar, Kutch, Gujarat. I am an engineer by profession and a literature enthusiast by passion. The journey began in 2019, when I initiated the Gujrati Jain religion, Tirthankar Parichay. A series of my blogs were published by the magazine “Kutch Gurjari.” Thanks to the pandemic, I had the opportunity to discover myself.

Today, I am the co-founder of a digital marketing agency. Writing has always been my way of expressing myself. For each poem, I draw my own illustration. For the past three years, I have been writing and posting on social media.

On January 30, 2024, we remember and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi, also known as the “Father of the Nation” in India, was a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. He was known for his principles of non-violence (Ahimsa) and civil disobedience, which he used as powerful tools to advocate for freedom, justice, and equality.

Gandhi’s life and teachings continue to inspire people worldwide. His commitment to truth, peace, and social justice left an indelible mark on the world. On this day, it is essential to reflect on his legacy and the values he stood for, such as non-violence, tolerance, and unity.

In commemorating Gandhi’s death anniversary, we can honor his memory by promoting peace, harmony, and social justice in our own lives and communities. His message of non-violence and his relentless pursuit of a more just and equitable world continue to be relevant and serve as a guiding light for humanity.

In the heart of India’s lore, under moon’s soft silver sheen,
Comes a festival of lights, Diwali, a sight to be seen.
A tapestry of twinkling stars, spread across the earthly plane,
A symphony of lamps and candles, singing in joyous refrain.

Fires of hope and new beginnings, chasing away the dark,
A victory of good over evil, igniting a collective spark.
Homes adorned in colorful rangolis, patterns intricate and bright,
Doorways lined with marigolds, basking in golden light.

The sound of laughter fills the air, as families unite,
Sharing stories, sweets, and love, a heartwarming sight.
Fireworks explode in the sky, painting it with hues,
Of crimson, azure, emerald, and myriad other clues.

Ganesha and Lakshmi are worshiped, blessings to bestow,
For prosperity, wisdom, and wealth, in life’s ebb and flow.
Golden diyas float on rivers, carrying whispered prayers,
To the heavens above, in hope someone there hears.

The taste of sweet ladoos, and savory samosas near,
Delighting the palate, spreading festive cheer.
Gifts exchanged, hands clasped tight,

About the Poet

Daksh Parikh, a 12-year-old prodigious talent hailing from Orlando, Florida, is not your ordinary tween. While many kids his age are engrossed in video games or outdoor sports, Aryan finds solace and expression through the art of poetry. He began penning verses at the tender age of 8 and, since then, has cultivated a passion that goes beyond his years.

Some of you may know that Aruna and I visited India early this year. I have written in my editorial column about celebrating Jan 26 – India republic day at  Gujarat VidyaPeeth, institute founded by Mahatma Gandhi, visited Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad on Jan 30th, Gandhi ji death anniversary, hosted fashion show at one of the local colleges with the theme of Indian traditional outfits. 

In this article let me talk about one more very interesting thing we did while we were in India. Desh-Videsh Media Group hosted a Poetry Contest at one of the high schools. The subject was Prime Minister Modi. 

The rules of this contest were as follows, 

The format of the poetry must be a quatrain, which consists of four lines in each stanza. The rhyme scheme of this poem will be AABB, meaning that the first and second lines of each stanza rhyme with each other, as do the third and fourth lines. 

Only submit ONE poem, ONE time. Submitting multiple poems will cause disqualification. Only one poem per student will be accepted.

Poem must adhere to basic rules of capitalization.

• Do not type poem in all capital letters.
• Do not capitalize the first letter of every word.
• Only capitalize words that are proper (i.e. names and places).
• The first word of each line may be capitalized.

Do not use “texting” lingo. Properly spell out all words.

Poems containing language that is vulgar, offensive, or wholly inappropriate will not be accepted.

Instead of Announcing First, second and third winners, we decided to announce the top 15 winners and each will get Rs 1000 as a prize.

A Man of Humble Beginnings

In the land of India, there rose a leader bold
A man of humble beginnings, yet with a heart of gold
His name was Narendra Modi, a man of great renown
Who climbed the ladder of success, from a small town

He served his country with all his might
With a vision in his heart, and a goal in sight
To make India strong, to make it great
To lead it to a brighter, better fate

His words rang true, his actions spoke loud
He stood for justice, and he stood out from the crowd
A man of integrity, a man of grace
A leader who brought hope to the nation’s face

We are very thankful to Kanan, a farmer, founder of Seer7 Timeless Solutions, a doting father, a self-professed Tamil poet, bilingual blogger, translator who has given us a permission to reprint his poetic translation of The Tirukkuṟaḷ.
