Ritisha weds Abhishek
January of 2014 brought together the lives of Orlando-based 26-year-old Ritisha Chhaganlal and Australia-based 23-year-old Abhishek Khatri.
Love bloomed for the duo at a social gathering when Abhishek was in Orlando on a medical rotation. Abhishek took things to the next level by executing a perfectly romantic proposal with the help of Ritisha’s sister. It sure was an unforgettable experience for Ritisha who had to decode clues to reach the location.
Wedding preparations commenced after an engagement period of nine months. Ritisha was at the helm of things along with her family members as far as planning for the wedding was concerned. Though a tough job, she enjoyed the entire process as she also got to meet a lot of fun people along the journey.
While the wedding and reception was held at Hyatt Regency at the Orlando International Airport, the
location for the Garba night was the Hyatt Regency Orlando. The wedding was attended by a significant number of people and the guest list included 375 people of which 100 had flown in from Australia.
Detailing played an important part in decorations for all the ceremonies. For the Garba night, the decorations included lanterns, peacocks, umbrellas and candles, and the hall was set in subtle colors and reflected a classy look.
The wedding ceremony took place indoors under a mandap with a large floral band at the top.
Going with her personality, Ritisha chose ivory/purple/plum as the dominant colors with rose petals thrown in the aisle.
The reception decor was a class apart with decorative trees, candles and florals forming the centrepieces and it wore a vintage look highlighted by amber lights. Ivory and gold remained the dominant colors with limited use of dark colors in the mid-drop and pillows of the love seat. The head tables had glittery table covers while the rest had rosettes.
Like any other Indian wedding, this one too had its dose of music. The Garba night featured a live band playing, and the wedding witnessed peppy dance numbers spun by DJ Firoz. To add zing to the celebrations, the bridesmaid did a divo dance to an instrumental piece and Ritisha walked down the aisle to “Sun Sathiya.”
The couple’s first dance was to “Samjhawan” from the film, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. One of the highlights of the Garba night was however, a classical dance piece performed by Ritisha, her mother and sister who were joined by six kathak dancers from the dance school run by her sister and mother. For the reception, they included all of their family and friends and ended it with a mother-daughter performance.

Amanda weds Rajesh
They say that the heart recognizes its soul mate, but the mind may take time to process. While at first glance of Amanda on his 30th birthday, Rajesh immediately recognized his destiny, it took Amanda, then 28, a year to recognize the same for Rajesh. After a whirlwind romance spanning five years, Rajesh staged a romantic proposal to Amanda in the skies on an airplane, which she gleefully accepted. Thus began their transition to a new phase of their life. In the engagement period spanning just over a year, the couple were very clear in their desire for a an Indian royal wedding in the style of Jodha Akbar. Wedding planner Anand Event Services helped turn their dreams to reality, while the entire family, including aunts and uncles, were involved with preparations. The matching bride and groom outfits were designed by CT West of Canada and
sent to India to be stitched and completed with matching customized jewelry. To capture their timeless love and special moments, the hashtag #RajandAmanda2016 was used on social media starting with the proposal all the way through the honeymoon in Tahiti and Bora Bora. In honor of their native land Trinidad, the couple chose the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Miami, Florida for their marriage ceremony.
The reception took place at the Diplomat Golf and Tennis in Hallandale Beach. The Mehndi and Sangeet function took place where they first met – at the home of their aunt and uncle! The décor was mesmerizing with multicolored draped fabrics illuminated with LED lighting and uplights. Both families thoroughly enjoyed the sangeet, especially the tassa drums and
singing by New York performers led by Randy Ramdeen. Six gold Laxmi murtis led the way to the mandap, which was draped in gold fabric and accessorized with flowers and LED lighting. A memory table with a Ganesh murti honored deceased loved ones with pictures. Each of the 165 invited guests were given a box of Indian sweets, a granola bar, water bottle and the six page program done in red, gold and ivory, describing each ritual significance.
A drone filmed the baarat with the groom entering on a fully decorated elephant to “Jashn E Bahara,” while the bride entered with her father to “Din Shagna Na.” The couple left in a White 2015 Rolls Royce.True to the Valentine Evening, the reception décor oozed romance with its bluish pink and gold theme. Centerpieces of white hydrangeas and pink roses were magical with up lights and LED lighting.
This was accentuated with light pink and ivory colored linens alternating on each table and beautifully complementing the gold beaded chargers and gold coaster set presented to each of the 135 guests present. Amidst a royal cuisine of four course meal, was the five tier cake in Vanilla Rum and Almond Amaretto. The couple’s first dance was to a mix of “All of Me” by John Legend and “Pee Loon”- perfect blend of east and west.

Bipasha weds Karan
Who doesn’t dream of a fairytale wedding?
However, to turn that dream into a reality is something with which Bipasha Basu has proved her mastery. Her wedding to Karan Grover on April 30, 2016 is truly the realization of the fantasy. Here are some of the milestones of this utterly romantic, classy and absolutely extravagant wedding!
Wedding Invite Bips sure knows how to do things ‘zaraa hatke!’ Ditching the traditional wedding card, her invite was cool, funny and meant to spread love! In her card, she asked her loved ones to spread ‘monkey-love’ of the couple along with a mesmerizing
pre-wedding photo shoot of some of the most can didmoments captured on the two love birds. You can’t help but simply swoon. Mehendi Ceremony Shunning the traditional green, Bipasha had her mehendi and sangeet venue at Villa 69, Juhu turned into a pink fantasy land. She wore an Anushree Reddy designed outfit and look the part of a mesmerizing princess in a pink rose print lehenga choli ensemble with an adorable tiara. The flower decoration at the gate was absolutely bedazzling. A beautiful blend of Indian vintage and Parisian style; the beautiful pastel floral was juxtaposed with mogra curtains and gota hangings. Bipasha’s jhumka and satlada added quite an edge to her lehenga. With breezy pastel makeup,
pretty floral haathphool and a floral pink clutch, Bipasha look ethereal yet so sensual! Complimenting her vivacious vibe, Karan flaunted an offbeat classy outfit designed by Antar Agni. Wedding Ceremony The wedding entrance of the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai was the first thing that caught the eye of all visitors. Decorated with white flowers, there was a special podium as well with a backdrop wallpaper of her pre-wedding photoshoot with Karan. Guests were encouraged
to use various placards and take clicks. In contrast to the traditional heavily embellished red lehenga designed by Sabyasachi that Bipasha wore for the wedding ceremony, Karan wore a white sherwani. However, he made a real swag entry by riding a Segway. A symbol and a continuation of their love, the decor was monkey-inspired. Yes, a monkey was even present on the wedding cake instead of the traditional couple! The flower stand looked regal with candles majestically lit up,
and the chairs decorated with white cloth. The entire pink and white theme décor exuded romance and extravagance. For the reception, Bipasha changed into a heavily embellished red and golden Sabyasachi lehenga accessorized with kundan jewellery, nath bangles and mang patti. Karan wore a tuxedo, which he accessorized with a beautiful jeweled brooch. The entire wedding was romantic and fun-filled theme, and will no doubt be the talk of the town for some time!

Michele Renee weds Osama
It’s not often we get to feature the wedding story of one of very own vendors! We’re thrilled to share Michele Renee Zerda’s story. The entire Desh-Videsh team congratulates Michele Renee and Osama and wishes the couple a long, joyous life together!
Being Palestinian and only here for 1 and one-half years, Osama Owias had never heard of salsa dancing when he decided to join his friends out one night. Michele Renee Zerda is Mexican American and salsa dances regularly, sometimes even in her sleep. Even though the dance floor at the salsa club was packed, it was easy to notice the 6’11” Palestinian. Friends introduced Michele Renee to Osama, and they danced, and more importantly, laughed the entire night. Osama knew that same day he would marry Michele Renee, and he did so four months later.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, Michele Renee and Osama sent out a text to a few close friends inviting them to a Valentine’s Day party that Sunday at Le Meridien in downtown Tampa. Little did everyone know that the party was really a surprise wedding! On February 14, 2016, Osama and Michele Renee walked out together down the old courthouse steps and surprised their guests saying “Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! If you haven’t realized it by now this is really not a party, it is a WEDDING! So, let the wedding commence!” Michele Renee’s bridesmaids came out holding lighted letters with the wedding’s hashtag – #MRZWEDSAM.
Fourty guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, cigar rolling, female impersonators, a photo booth, and most importantly, bhangra dancers!
Having been planned in only four days, the night was not perfect, but the wedding was definitely fun! Osama and Michele Renee looked out in the crowd at the end of the night and saw their friends, a rainbow of ethnicities and religions – they thought this is exactly what we wanted our wedding to be about – Love.

Reema weds Chandresh
Though they attended the same college, Reema Patel, 27, a clinical research coordinator, and Chandresh Vallabh, 26, IIT Consultant, first met on Facebook and after a year of eyeing each other from distance, eventually began dating. After getting to know each other for over six years, Chandresh planned a unique proposal in their apartment amidst friends and family. Using a poster board collage as his proposal board, he even caught her entire nonplussed happy dazed look on video for timeless memories.
Reema began wedding planning one year ahead of the decided date, July 18, 2015. Instead of hiring a wedding planner, Reema’s mother and sister assumed all responsibility to arrange for the wedding. This was made trifle easy since as a no-nonsense person, Reema did not want to get involved in every step of wedding prep, but rather wanted ‘good food, good drinks and sky blue and gold colors’ for her wedding. She did select her mandap though in less than an hour, of course!
Events were held at the Sonesta, Gwinnett Place at Duluth, Georgia. The choice was easy since the place was an expert on Hindu Gujarati weddings and its associated customs. For Chandresh’s family, predominantly residing in South Africa, it was equivalent to a destination wedding.
Prior to the wedding, nearly 350 guests were treated to a visual delight of an exquisite simple rangoli in the hall, simple white linen tables and very simple decorations. It was a romantic and musical evening made memorable by Natasha’s Décor’s music band for the Sangeet and DJ Jaz’s awesome music and lighting.
For the wedding, one of the Sonesta halls was decorated with light blue and gold theme as wished by Reema. Preferring white chairs over traditional gold ones, the mandap was set up in a butterfly style. The sides of the aisles were adorned by flower petals and chairs, a single sky blue or gold ribbon around it.
The wedding program was uniquely styled in many ways. It had the basic outline of each Indian custom with a brief explanation. Chandresh made it unique by making it ‘online only’ by setting it up for hosting and viewing in a web browser after the created QR code was scanned. All 350 guests were encouraged to scan the code and view the program on their mobiles.
For the ceremony taking place at 10:15 am, Chandresh arrived in a horse against background music of “Sajanji Ghar Awe” and was warmly received by Reema’s mother. Reema walked down the aisle amidst her father’s favorite song of sentimental value, “Tum Hi Ho.” The rest was a dream ritual uniting the couple.
The reception was a musical bonanza with DJ Jaz churning out an amazing mix of Bollywood songs, old school and current music. Guests fondly refer to the evening as a “Miami nightclub” everyone was on the floor having fun. Several special songs played out to capture special moments, like the family announcing their arrival with the fun, upbeat song, “Dilliwaale Girlfriend.” The wedding couple carried the trend of making a unique entry with Chandresh running and Reema trying to capture him to the song “Beat It” by Michael Jackson.
Reema agrees that all disasters, nightmares and chaos are part of the wedding fanfare, but down the line, what remains etched on the mind is the emotional quotient and the feeling of belonging to each other forever.
