Ankur and Rachna Found each other on the internet,
only to sign in for a lifelong connection.

    Zamana Lifestyles

Ras GarbaRachna just returned home after a 12-hour long shift, hungry and tired. What happened next was least expected. Her friend Ankur was waiting at her home. Dancing candles all around, and he stood in the middle of the room with a beautiful bouquet in his hands. By the time Rachna took the bouquet, Ankur was on his knee with a ring and the golden words of a proposal. Rachna wasn’t aware that Ankur already got approval and blessings from her parents. All that remained was an official nod from her, which she readily gave.

Hence began the planning for a perfect wedding! With someone experienced, like Rachna’s mother, takingcharge of the event management, there wasn’t any need tohire a professional for the job. The bridemehndiand her sisters volunteered to assist the lady in-charge.

    Pre-Wedding Function
The mehndi, sangeet and dinner ceremony were organized for the evening before the wedding. The theme for the event was retro Indian retro. Guests were welcomed with floral varnish, which they tied to their hair. The screening of Bollywood movie clips from the 70s along with some hit numbers of the period, brought back the bygone era back to life.

kanpuri, dhoklaFood stations set up all around the venue offered scrumptious delicacies like falafel, pani puri, spring rolls, kanpuri, dhokla, cracked wheat khichdi with vegetables, kadhi, and bajra-jawar rotlas. For dessert, guests enjoyed jalebi and ice cream. Garba and raas were performed during the mehndi ceremony.
Rachna looked simple but elegant in a sleeveless ghagra choli purchased in Edison, New Jersey. April Bowles was her makeup and hair stylist for the evening and for the events to follow. For the mendhi, April suggested a side hairdo with a tight braid coming across the top of the head. The style looked divinie, and added much charm to the already gorgeous bride-to-be.

    Wedding Ceremony
Augusta Riverwalk Amphitheatre served as the perfect outdoor wedding venue. The amphitheatre overlooks the Savannah River adding to its beauty. With the wedding being staged in the outdoors near the water, a ‘tropical theme’ created a perfect romantic ambience. Remmal and his team at Occasions by Shangri-la did a fabulous job portraying the theme with a bamboo mandap, skillfully decorated with fresh flowers, tropical arrangements, and greenery.

Wedding CeremonyThe aisle was strewn with colorful rose petals. Fresh floral arrangements were crafted using purple dendrobium orchid sprays, red-orange heliconia, hot pink and orange colored lilies, and palmetto leaves. The tropical backdrop to the mandap included hanging crystal strands and orchid drops.

The bride walked down the aisle in a traditional white and red panetar sari with splashes of green. Rachna’s natural curls were set in a classic low bun that gave her a perfect traditional look.

The couple hired Zamana Lifestyles for photography and video of the event based on their known reputation. Their flexible working style did impress all.

MangalashtakamDJ Neal Patel was referred by one of Rachna’s family friends. He too did a great job by entertaining the guests well. A friend sang the Mangalashtakam as the bride walked into the venue. The instrumental version of Kal Ho Na Ho played while she walked down the aisle and made everyone emotional.
Walking down the 70 steps to the mandap made for one of the most memorable moments for the bride. “It was an amazing view from the top, and I’m so glad I didn’t trip!” remarks Rachna.

The bride’s mother, a big time foodie herself, knew that the food for the evening needed to be just right as it was one thing that most people remember about weddings. Sudhaben Patel was hired for the job and she too performed to her reputation.

Given the many steps to climb down to access the main stage of the amphitheatre, a decorated golf cart provided guests with a ride to the location. The newly wedded couple left the mandap in a decorated golf cart.

    ReceptionReception
Burnt orange and eggplant purple were the theme colors for the reception. The floor setup for the reception included four long estate tables in a diamond set up surrounding the dance floor. The centerpieces were gold Manzanita trees with hanging carnation balls, crystals, and candles. Gold chair covers offered a clean look, and burnt orange and eggplant colored tablecloths and napkins complemented the theme well. The couple sat at the sweetheart table on the stage.

The bride donned a coral and emerald green choli suit from Khajana Boutique in Edison, New Jersey. Her skirt flared at the bottom with toil and netting to make it stand out. Rachna’s hair was set up in a low up do style. Her makeup was more on the natural side. April primarily focused on accenting the bride’s alluring eyes.

One memorable moment of the evening included a choreographed routine performed by the bride’s friends and family members to Chris Brown’s Forever. The couple too performed a choreographed dance to Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat’s Lucky.

Since Ankur is a huge standup comedy fan, Rachna hired an Indian comedian to emcee the reception. Rajiv Satyal from Los Angeles, California, did a terrific job. It was a surprise for Ankur from the bride.

Ankur, a pediatrician, and Rachna, a pharmacist, thought it only fitting to offer the “MD/PharmD” as their signature cocktail. Signs at the bar were created to look like prescriptions and advised guests to consume a drink to enjoy the evening. Refills were unlimited, obviously! The drink was a Seabreeze with vodka, cranberry juice and grapefruit juice.

Nirmal and HemaliNirmal and Hemali were enjoying a romantic evening at the Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York City. The iconic Manhattan skyline offered the perfect backdrop. Nirmal started with a speech, but his words were ruthlessly subdued by the noise of a train passing by. The noisy scene ended as Nirmal offered a ring. Hemali did not hear a single word, but standing amidst a silence, she realized that Nirmal officially proposed to her.

Nirmal Bhakta and Hemali PatelJust eight months earlier, Nirmal Bhakta and Hemali Patel were strangers and two students at the New York University College of Dentistry. A mutual friend introduced the two. Now, after many days spent together and hours of chatting, they both know they were made for each other.

Now the real challenge was to sketch a perfect wedding plan. Adding to the complexity was a wish from Hemali’s parents – a wedding near their home in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though the newly engaged couple resides in Dallas, Texas, Hemali agreed to the wish. After all, nothing supersedes parents’ wishes!

    SangeetSangeet
The theme for the sangeet was Moroccan infused with an ethnic tradition ambience. As the tradition goes, the bride was offered gifts by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Her gifts included an array of beautiful sarees, lehngas, and jewelry.
The mehndi night was organized in a purely traditional Indian style with decorations of paisley design panels and lighting décor.

    Wedding Ceremony
The wedding was initially to take place outdoors overlooking a golf course, but due to weather conditions, it was moved indoors at the last minute. The priests performing the ceremony hailed from Chicago, Illinois. The stunning bride’s two mamas (mom’s brothers) walked her down the aisle. A natural mandap was lushly decorated with exotic flowers. The structure was custom-made by the decorator Prashe.

Swarovski crystalsHemali drew from an ethnic look, as portrayed in Indian epic tales, as inspiration for her make-up and hair. Her maroon and rusty orange colored saree with zardosi threaded embroidery and Swarovski crystals gave her a royal look for the ceremony. Her jewelry was from Udaipur, Rajasthan, and the custom detailed lehnga and saree was custom-made from Seasons India. She wore her hair up in large curls with ornaments and white orchids enhancing her poise.

Her six nieces were the flower girls, and they wore similar lehngas which were custom made at Sequence in Baroda.
Interestingly, while Hemali was having her reception make-up done she fell asleep and started sleep talking to her make-up artist. She has a genuine piece of advice for all brides-to-be, “Stay well rested before the event.”

    ReceptionReception
Large, tall centerpieces were eye-catching as the guests made their way into the reception hall. The high ceiling of the venue offered enough space for the centerpieces to rise with beautifully arranged bunches of hydrangeas, orchids, and roses in large vases. All the flowers used were flown in from South America. Two ice sculpture bars with the couple’s initials were also the center of attraction.

During the wedding lunch, chefs offered fresh dosas to the guests. For cocktail hour, grilled vegetables, paneer tikka, manchurian, and Indo-Chinese were available. For the main course, the menu featured traditional Punjabi fare. Andy’s Passage to India provided the catering. Dessert was provided by Cupcakes from Blushing Bakery and Pinkberry, a frozen yogurt franchise based out of NYC, where Nirmal and Hemali went on their first date. The wedding cake was made up of 300 small cupcakes beautifully decorated with edible orchids matching the real orchids used for the decor.

Nirmal’s cousin Vishal sang his toast, which he pre-recorded using an iPhone app to imitate rapper T-Pain.

DJ Smarty kept spirits up throughout the evening. The couple walked in to Souja Boy, since Nirmal enjoys rap music, and the duo’s first dance was to the “Empire State of Mind part 2” by Alicia Keys. During the dance, a video clip of the two filmed in New York City played in the background. Hemali’s father-daughter dance was to the song “Yaadein,” which was memorable and heartfelt.

The royal looking couple made an equally royal getaway in a Rolls Royce.

  • Double Knot

Seven Christian vows and seven Hindu pheras have tied
Hitesh and Amy in a doubly strong knot.

    Hitesh and Amy

datingHitesh and Amy met in college at the University of Chapel Hill in North Carolina. They started dating and it only took six more years for Hitesh to propose!

Hitesh and Amy took a trip to Corolla, NC on the Outer Banks. They had a grand time enjoying the dunes and safari. Upon reaching the Inn, the two relaxed relaxing on Adirondack chairs with coffee. As they watched the sun set, Hitesh suggested a walk down to the gazebo over the water. He handed his phone to AmyHindu wedding asking her to take pictures of the setting sun. As she tried to capture the sun touching the waters, Hitesh knelt on one knee and said “Amy.” She turned around and was completely speechless. In that state of shock, all Amy could utter was a meek “Yes.”

What followed was planning for a Christian wedding and a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.

    Christian WeddingChristian Wedding
The Christian wedding was a simple but elegant affair. The bride wore a strapless ivory gown with a rose pink sash at the waistline. Above the waistline, beadwork offered a pinkish-golden hue. Below the waist, the dress was satin with a shear overlay and similar beadwork as the top. The shoes were ivory peep toes with rhinestones across the toes.

Amy wore her hair down, parted on the side. The stylist used rollers to give bride’s hair a little body Horseand the curl. The makeup was a dewy, fresh look.

    Hindu Wedding
The hardest part of all the planning was to find the Hindu bridal trousseau. The couple made a couple of trips to New York to find outfits for the bride and her sisters. Hard work pays off! Amy’s Hindu bridal dress was a red and gold mermaid cut made of raw silk. The skirt was of brocade fabric adorning crystal work.

dupattaindian-wedding-photography-christian-ceremony-greenville-nc-20For the Hindu ceremony, the bride’s stylist put her hair in an up-do under the dupatta. For the reception, she took the dupatta off, showing-off the wonderful hairstyle. The makeup of the bride was a subtle one in shades of gold.

The ceremony was held in a beautiful golden mandap, which had a matching gate and pedestals for flower arrangements aligning the aisle. The roof of the mandap was adorned with a gorgeous display of vibrant flowers. The aisle was laid with red carpet. On the entrance gate, there was a golden idol of Ganesha sitting under a beautiful red and gold umbrella.

A memorable moment for Amy was a tradition followed during the phera ceremony. She received new shoes from her new family just before the fourth phera. Amy got a pair of golden shoes with attractive rows of rhinestones from the toes reaching up to the ankle.

    Reception
The bride wore a pink and teal outfit for the reception. Her bolder makeup matched well with the attire.

indian-weddingThe décor of the evening was conceived in rich vibrant colors. The tables were adorned with teal Moroccan lanterns and teal votives. The centerpieces had many different elements. There were flower arrangements on every table with a dessert stand. The linens were champagne. The flower arrangements were a combination of orchids, roses, and hydrangeas.

The wedding cake displayed a mehndi design on all four tiers with heavy artwork on the front that gradually tapered in the back. It tasted even better than its appearance. The yellow cake with butter cream icing wascovered in fondant. Two layers were filledwith achocolatebuttercream while the other two were raspberrybutter cream.

The wedding party was introduced to Tonight’s Going to be a GoodNight by the Black Eyed Peas. The father-daughter dance was performed to the The Indiana Waltz by the Pine Tree string band. Upbeat Indian music and the latest top 40 hits kept guests moving throughout thenight.

    FavorsFavors
For the Christian ceremony brunch, mason jars filled with organic chocolate truffles were offered to guests. Amy’s sister and father personally decorated the lids with two different fabrics that she picked out and attached a ribbon with a little thank you tag.

Several other favors were offered at the reception later that evening. Silver clocks were given to close family. The other favors consisted of silver cups from Bangalore filled with Lindt chocolate truffles and silver decorative tins from India.

  • Gujarat meets Punjab

    Photos Courtesy: Zamana Lifestyles
    www.zamanaphoto.com

Mona and Gurminder’s was not just a wedding of two individuals. It was the union of two mighty states of India. Gujarat and Panjab tied the knot one evening in America.

    Mona Gurminder

Gujarat and PanjabReal estate professional Mona Desai roots hail from Gujarat, India. The family of Gurminder Singh Thind, a strength coach for Texas Tech’s football team, comes from Punjab. Here were two distinct personalities and two families representing distant states of India, coming together to celebrate a beautiful bond.

The couple opted for a destination wedding at the Westin Resort and Spa on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Guests from all over the United States gathered, and the groom’s family came down all the way from Mississauga, Canada.

The couple had more than a year’s time to plan the wedding. The result was a planned celebration that exuded perfection and grace.

Mona donned the hat of “wedding planner” and was helped by her childhood friend, Vimal, who has an extraordinary sense for details and great taste that matches Mona’s likings.

The theme picked for the wedding was that of the peacock, and it was religiously applied to every detail including the flower arrangements, mandap backdrop, invitations, bouquets and more. The flowers, garlands, and décor were designed and supplied by Ragini Patel of Weddings InStyle based in Atlanta, Georgia.

    The TrousseauThe Trousseau
Mona chose a bridal gown that was traditional but with a modern twist. It was conventional red with splashes of white, gold and green. The jewelry was from Sajni and the outfit came from Sheetal, both based in Mumbai. The bride’s hair was done as a high bun to provide the perfect base for her veil, which showcased exquisite stonework detailing along the crown.

Mona’s niece Suri and Gurminder’s niece Suhana acted flower girls for the evening. Their outfits were tailored using the same material as that of the bridesmaid saris, which were a shimmery peacock green with a beautiful border and a golden blouse to match.

    Photos Courtesy: Salsan International
    www.imagesbyhasan.com

It was on a summer evening at the University of Illinois, Chicago
when Kiran and Nina met for the first time. Both were studying medicine –
Kiran was as relaxed and laid-back as Nina was high-strung and focused.
A few dates later the two opposites realized that they were attracted to each other for life.

Opposites attract. And so they did. It was time to make their undying love
    for one another official.

    Kiran

    ENGAGEMENTTHE PROPOSAL & ENGAGEMENT
Kiran officially proposed to Nina on Valentine’s Day. He secretly flew his and Nina’s parents down to Jacksonville, Florida for the special event. Every minute of the day was a surprise for Nina, which included a vineyard visit and picnic at a fort in St. Augustine.

In a huge park before onlookers, Kiran went down on one knee and popped the question – much to Nina’s surprise. Silence prevailed for a few moments; finally, Nina said yes. They drove back to Jacksonville where the couple’s parents were eagerly waiting with presents, flowers, and champagne. The celebration continued for two days. Amidst this festivity, they got engaged.

Nina and her mother were the wedding planners. That’s what led to a perfect event with a personal touch. The two unanimously wanted a very modern and classy event. After the engagement, they had eight months to plan the 5-day event.Theybegan with the selection ofa venue, next the wedding date, and finally ashopping trip to India.

    VENUE
Nina and Kiran tied the knot in Fort Lauderdale where Nina’s family resides. With its gorgeous ballrooms, expansive garden terrace and a breathtaking ocean view, the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa was the perfect choice for the event.

    BRIDAL ATTIREBRIDAL ATTIRE
The bridal dresses were custom-made in Delhi. The burgundy and champagne lehnga was richly embedded with gold jewels from Chandni Chowk. The reception lehnga from CTC Plaza was an iridescent blue-green color, mermaid-cut with beautiful Swarovski crystal embellishments. Nina’s mehndi and sangeet dress was a salmon and olive colored lehnga, embroidered with Swarovski crystals. Her gold kundan jewelry was purchased in Delhi. Her diamond jewelry, set in platinum, included long dangling chandelier earrings and an intricate diamond necklace from JKJ Jewelers of Jaipur.

BRIDE’S HAIR AND MAKEUPBRIDE’S HAIR AND MAKEUP
Sumaiya Waheed was Nina’s make-up artist, and she chose strong brown and maroon shades for Nina’s wedding look. Nina’s hair was kept in an up-do style as she wore a dupatta. For the reception, Nina’s hair remained in an up-do style, but not as high. Her elegant French twist was dressed-up with a bluish-purple orchid.

For the mehndi and sangeet evening, Nina wore vibrant colors to match her colorful olive/salmon lehnga. She left her hair down with flowing curls adorned by diamond-studded bobby pins.

    PRE-WEDDING FUNCTIONSPRE-WEDDING FUNCTIONS
Mehndi and the ladies sangeet was held at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa, the night before the wedding ceremony. Two large orange and fuchsia draped canopy tents housed Moroccan lounge furniture, pouf seating as well as lanterns, candles, hookahs, and camels to create the perfect Moroccan ambience. Large crystal candelabras placed as centerpieces were draped in ivy and hanging crystals. Surrounding the centerpieces were Moroccan style candles and votives.

Nine live chef food stations were in place for the event serving Indian dishes alongside Mexican and Italian cuisine.

NAmber and gold sheer tablecloths and chair sashes brought cohesion to the whole room. Amber and fuchsia lighting throughout the room and a custom monogram with the wedding couple’s names revolving around the ballroom were the highlights of the evening. Comedian Paul Singh from Washington, DC was flown in to provide entertainment.

    THE WEDDING CEREMONYTHE WEDDING CEREMONY
The wedding ceremony took place in an oceanfront ballroom bearing nontraditional décor yet in a classic theme. A gold and red mandap was built out of fabric and floral decors, and tall clear vases filled with orchids served as aisle markers with red pomander balls on top.

To the tune of Dulhe Raja, the groom entered the mandap with his sister and cousins covering his face so as not to allow him to see the bride walk down the aisle. With Teri Ore from the movie Singh is Kingg playing in the background, flower girls threw rose petals as Nina made her way down the aisle. She was escorted by her closest male relatives who held a floral red and gold sheer sheet (phoole ki chadaar) over her head.

The groom entered the mandap with his sister and cousins covering his face so as not to allow him to see the bride walk down the aisle. Flower girls spread rose petals down the way while Nina made an appearance. She was escorted by her closest male relatives who held a floral red and gold sheer sheet (phoole ki chadaar) over her head.

COCKTAIL HOURComplete explanation of the Hindu Vedic ceremony was printed on the program sheet for the guests.

    COCKTAIL HOUR
Held on the garden terrace of the Marriott, the cocktail hour took place with a picturesque backdrop of the ocean. The highlight of the menu was the wedding couple’s signature drink – Kirina, a hybrid of Kiran and Nina. It was a mango mojito, which combined Kiran’s love for mangoes and Nina’s adoration for mojitos.

The couple showcased a three-minute video skit, which they shot with a UFC theme and music from Rocky. Kiran and Nina appeared as fighters on screen and challenged each other with jokes. The video made the guests break into laughter. The bride and groom also gave an admirable Rumba-Indian dance performance.

In a unique twist, the couple displayed a Zap Shots presentation. Candid photographs of the guests from various wedding events were projected on screens. The guests enjoyed seeing themselves in different moods.

    RECEPTIONRECEPTION
The colors for the reception were purple, blue and white. The entire ceiling was draped with white sheer swags. Instead of a traditional bride-groom stage, a white lounge was placed for the couple in the center of the room. The dance floor was given a diamond shape and was displayed with the couple’s custom monogram.

Royal purple linens with gold shimmer on each table matched chair sashes. Deep blue-purple LED lighting in the room added to the cool and chic look of the ballroom. The centerpieces were tall clear vases with purple-colored water and floating orchids. The floral arrangement was a full round purple hydrangeas, purple roses, orchids and lilies. Each centerpiece was accented with pin-spot lighting and surrounded by an abundance of candles.

Outside the reception hall, the large foyer displayed wedding photographs of the couple’s parents in black and white stood along with a photograph of the bride and groom in-between.
